3 MODEL CONTENTS OF ENERGY AUDITS IN THE EURONET 50/50 SCHOOLS INTRODUCTION The energy audits developed in the EURONET 50/50 project have some specific characteristics that make them different from a standard energy audit. Some of them are as follows: - They have to be technically rigorous but easily understandable for the energy team (pupils and educational staff). - It has to include a description of the building in a way that the energy team could understand it and work with it. It can be the reference to develop the energy tours. - It has to give special attention to the management and the operation of the centre, without forgetting the building description and the consumption points. - It has to be useful to calculate the reference year for the economic transfer of the 50% of the savings achieved to the school (partners can make these calculation). - It should allow later on to undertake the energy follow-up of the school, showing the consumption data in a comprehensible way. - The energy audit will name the biggest problems concerning the state of the building but it has to focus also on actions with a low investment and mostly those related with the implementation of good practices (it should be a guide or an inspiration for the energy team). Summarizing it has to be a technical document to support the energy team ENERGY AUDIT CONTENTS 1) Introduction and methodology of the audit. a. Presentation of the framework, objectives, technical visits, the working methods, etc. b. General description of the school. Brief introduction of the equipment stressing the most important features of the school, location and type of building, activities undertaken in the building and distribution of floors, working timetable, number of pupils, etc.

4 2) Description of the building/s and the energy consumptions: a. Survey of the entire thermic building envelope (outside walls, windows, bottom and top building closure) b. Description of the facilities and the building. cooling/heating, Sanitary Hot Water, electric system (counters, electric panels, electric connections), main consumption equipment (electrical appliances, office devices, hands dryers, etc.), closures and types of roofs, renewable energies installations: description of the existing ones, others. c. Description of the existing energy sources and evolution of consumption. Survey of the heat supply (heating, warm water supply), data of the contracts (for heating and electricity). Method: Collection of data on the spot and using construction drawings and other documents. 3) Description of the energy management of the school. Persons and their management tasks, responsible of closing lights, timetables for clearing tasks, if it exists some centralized system or a specific timetable to open and close the cooling/heating system, actions to raise awareness / change habits of the users of the building, if there have been changes on the building, relevant actions during the last years or planned. 4) Proposed actions: actions proposed to implement good practices in the energy management or to make small investments for improving energy efficiency. 5) Conclusions of the energy audit a. Main weaknesses and strengths of the school on energy use. (Consumption trend, equipments with the higher consumptions and reasons for that). b. Indicators of energy consumption. We propose to calculate the following indicators (from the Check it out project): i. Min/Average/Max kwh/m²a heat energy ii. Min/Average/Max kwh/m²a electricity). c. Main actions proposed d. Other observations made during the visitor other aspects considered relevant.

5 POSSIBLE ADDITIONS TO THE ENERGY AUDIT The EURONET 50/50 energy audits focus on the general evaluation of the energy situation and use of the schools. Within the framework of the project it is not possible to obtain an energy certification of the buildings because there are not enough resources to cover this task and some countries in addition are not technically ready for that. However, the possibility to develop energy certifications is included in this document as an interesting aspect that can be added to the energy audits if it is possible. Aspects that can be included to the energy audits developed in the EURONET 50/50 schools: 1) Calculation of geothermal building data and the theoretical heat requirements of the building using professional software (EPASS HELENA) according to the regulation in DIN Classification of the building in its current state in comparison with similar buildings. 2) Issuing the energy pass (Energy Performance Certificate).
