2 TEC integration: overview & procedure Petals will be integrated sector wise Back petal has to be inserted before neighbour front petal (mechanical reasons) Disks function as desk during insertion Minimise number of rotations Petals are mounted on both sides of the disks Sequence of integration: insertion of one tower of back petals (D9 D1) rotation of the TEC insertion of one tower of front petals (D1 D9) connect cables, ribbons, cooling of whole sector readout test disconnect cables, ribbons, cooling rotation of the TEC for next sector 1 sector (=18 petals): 1 tower of back petals (9 petals) 1 tower of front petals (9 petals) = 9 control rings = 4 cooling loops Katja Klein TEC+ Status Report 2/27

4 Cabling: status & issues 48 LIC cables (24 with standard connectors, 24 with high connectors) to be connected at the TEC bulkhead High connectors are crucial for the TEC, since cables are connected at bulkhead in two rows: 52 LICs received: 31 with standard connectors, 21 with high connectors 3 high connector cables missing need to produce adapters! All cables tested with N. Lumbs cable tester 3 faulty cables found (1 cable has no connection to 1.25V sense line, 2 cables have problem with T1 lines) Not all cables were delivered with slide lock pins need to add them Katja Klein TEC+ Status Report 4/27

5 Cabling: status & issues Cables bundled petal wise 2.4 km of cables stored in clean room false floor Try to minimize noise pick up by avoiding any loops Cables are heavy and inflexible clamped permanently onto desks in correct length, height and orientation Cable desks moved to clean room far end when not needed Katja Klein TEC+ Status Report 5/27

6 CAEN power supplies: status & issues 24 analog power supplies A4601 and 3 control power supplies A4602 needed to power 1 sector 24 A4601, 4 EASY crates, 2 AC/DC converters in hands A4602 not yet available, but could use A4601 instead 10 special control power cables already produced in Aachen these 5 additional PSMs are needed now! Discussion on shielding & filtering ongoing between experts... Decided to rework PSMs (W. Karpinski): Csh= 510nF cable shield (drain1) can now be connected to chassis via switch on backplane (before: floating) lateral shields of PSM now all connected to the chassis (before: to power return line) to minimize coupling between PSUs Status: all modifications done Katja Klein TEC+ Status Report 6/27

7 Services: status and issues Services (pipes & cables) installed for first sector only (N. Lumb) Lots of problems (pipes tightness, mechanical precision, welding quality) solved after change of company Remaining problem: sealing molds (provide gas tight exit of cables) extend radially too far outside of allowed TEC radius Tests with different sealing compounds ongoing If proper solution found: second sector ready this month Installation of services with petals inside the TEC is delicate Not clear at all: how to seal sevices of first sector with petals inserted? 9 C6F14 distribution system Lauda chiller: 30 C < T < 150 C pmax = 6 bar max = 60 l/min P( 20 C) = 3.7 kw Test at room temperature (Tbath = 12 C) with 18 dummy petals installed: Test of tightness with vacuum Removal of air with vacuum seems to work Purging with dry air works well Maximal total flow (4 cooling loops connected): 20.7 l/min at 5.5 bar at chiller Flow per petal: 1.15 l/min Pressure drop over TEC not known (sensor was not yet operational) Design values: 1.3 l/min, p = 4.5 bar Change of bath temperature by 12K did not cause a significant change Katja Klein TEC+ Status Report 9/27

10 Interlock & slow control Small PLC system installed in Aachen (M. Tsirou, F. Hartmann): 16 thermistors 4 HMX humidity sensors on the petals 8 interlock signals 4 Honeywell humidity sensors external sensors 8 PT100s } } The system has been debugged, basic functionality is there It will be put in operation probably end of next week together with Machi, with all sensors connected (i.e. all petals need to be installed and cabled) Cables & sensor switch box to be provided by DSS group Monitoring, change of interlock logic etc. via PVSS program Interlock logic (which sensor cuts which PSU) to be implemented Katja Klein TEC+ Status Report 10/27

13 DAQ status & issues Need 11 FEDs, 2 FECs and several trigger cards for 9 control loops Currently hardware for readout of 8 control loops in hands (optical splitter TTCoc for trigger missing) Problem with VME communication to FEC debug session with Frederic this week Data taking with HyperDAQ for first sector Run control and monitoring tools needed? 14 Data analysis: status & plans Basic data analysis (noise, cluster finding, S/N,...) with AC1Analysis code (R. Brauer, used for testbeam analysis) after few modifications Grading of petals in TEC to be implemented after experience with first sector Storage of test results into data base to be implemented Tracking & alignment studies will be performed with ORCA (M. 15 Petal reception: overview Fully qualified petals delivered by the five petal integration centers Purpose of the reception test: rule out transportation damages add and test items that cannot be integrated by the petal integration centers: * digital opto hybrids plus DOHM for optical control communication * humidity sensors No in depth qualification! All tests performed at room temperature Estimated petal delivery rate of 10 petals/week need to test 2 petals/day Faulty petals will be given to repair center: 3. 16 Petal reception test sequence Optical inspection: look for scratches, obvious damage, dirt... Test of the control communication (I2C protocol): test of I2C communication to all devices, special sequence known to lead to communication errors in case of hardware problems functionality of optical control components (digital opto hybrids) on back petals test of the redundancy (= possibility to bypass bad CCUMs) Temperature and humidity sensor readout, comparison with external probes Connectivity scan Full commissioning: optimisation of sampling time optimisation of laser settings Pedestal runs in peak and deconvolution mode IV curves Katja Klein TEC+ Status Report 16/27

17 Petal reception: first experience & results Huge effort by R. Brauer and St. Schmitz (electronics engineer) 1 petal per day routinely tested; well in phase with petal delivery rate 25 petals tested, 4 rejected, 1 damaged at reception test Problems observed so far: 2 x pushed APV bonds 1x badly placed bias connector, 1 HPK module with HV problem (trips at low voltage, verified with ARCs) Data analyzed with AC1Analysis package (Richard) Grading similar to longterm test (# of bad strips, leakage current) All 21 readout tested petals are grade A (= less than 25% grade B modules) Insertion of test results into DB to be defined and implemented All petals for the first sector are available In general, delivered petals are of very good quality! 25 Insertion of first production petals Conclusion from first experience: Insertion of one back petal needs about 40 min (for most difficult sector) Front petals might need longer (different fiber box, back petal already inserted) Insertion tool works well Procedure established Three engineers / technicians well trained, two are needed Of course, damage can only be ruled out after first readout test... 26 Concerns as of October tracker week Quality of received petals; not enough experience yet to judge Quality of received petals is good: 4/25 petals not accepted Possible damage of petals during insertion into TEC; removal of petals for repair is tricky and time consuming Don't know yet Readyness of DAQ setup in Aachen (we are still missing components!) Components (except TTCoc) available, debugging ongoing System aspects (stability of communication and readout, noise) Don't know yet Services have probably to be mounted when first petals are in the TEC+ Unfortunately true! Even worse: how to seal services of first sector? Repair of broken ribbons to be organised (spliced samples irradiated last week) Irradiated samples provided to Francois in October, no result yet (?)
