Your user name is your company address; the temporary password is welcome. Once the expense report is submitted, your manager will receive an seeking approval; manager review is expected as soon as possible, and after finally approved the reimbursement will be direct deposited to your account (except for mileage which will appear on your next paycheck). Please see Lindsey Knudsen in Accounts Payable if you need assistance. INTRODUCTIONS A new medical student will be in our midst from April 22 to May 17 th. Patty comes to us with lots of experience as she continues to work as a CNA at Sheyenne Care Center. Andy Sather of our Maintenance Department is Patty s husband. Janice Eberts was recently hired as a Patient Access Representative. Janice and her husband moved to North Dakota about a year-and-ahalf ago from Washington State. Cheryl Hamilton, MT is working in our Laboratory. Cheryl is here on a temporary assignment through an agency. Russ Miner, a Lab Student associated with Rasmussen College is here until mid August. Russ is from Forest Lake, MN, a 15-year veteran with the US Navy, and returned to school 3 years ago. We welcome each of these individuals and we hope that they enjoy their association with Mercy Hospital.

3 DAKOTA NURSING PROGRAM MAKES DONATION TO MERCY MED/SURG STAFF Students from the Student Nurse Organization, Dakota Nursing Program, Valley City, are shown donating a temporal thermometer to the Medical-Surgical staff at Mercy Hospital. The student nurses from the AD and PN programs are grateful to Mercy Hospital for allowing them to gain valuable nursing experiences during their clinical rotations on the Medical-Surgical unit other departments throughout the hospital. Proceeds from fundraising activities this past school year have also gone towards defraying the medical costs of a local cancer survivor and participating in the Christmas Giving Tree sponsored by Dacotah Bank of Valley City. NIGHTINGALE EVENT The second annual Nightingale Event is scheduled for Tuesday evening, May 14 th at the AmericInn. It will begin with a 6pm social, followed by a program at 6:30. All nurses in the community are invited to attend. RSVP to Alana Wendel by May 1 st is requested. Free will donation for the meal. LEARN ASSIGNMENT DUE DATE FAST APPROACHING All employees are reminded that May 15 th is the deadline for completing annual CRP and HIPAA LEARN courses. Also, by virtue of now being on CHI Connect, you can access the LEARN courses from Inside CHI and it is a seamless connection so no additional login and password is required. On the Inside CHI home page, along the left margin you will see a section entitled My Tools and about two-thirds of the way down under this section, you can simply click the link for LEARN.
4 WELLNESS INCENTIVE UPDATE This year s SUCCEED Personal Health Assessment (PHA) became available in January. Have you taken your PHA? What did you learn? Are you working on any health goals based on your PHA results? What are you doing to take control of your health? Don t forget it s as easy as with the It s All About YOU Checklist 1. Know Your Numbers If you were not able to participate in the biometrics campaign and have not had a preventive screening visit with your doctor since 8/1/12, call your doctor for an appointment today. It is important to know what your latest cholesterol, blood pressure, and blood sugar values are. 2. Take Your PHA Learn how your lifestyle choices affect your health. If you participated in the biometrics campaign at your location or submitted a physician form, your numbers will already be entered in the PHA. If you did not do either of these, it is recommended that you see your doctor for a preventive screening so you can include your numbers in your PHA for best results. Remember, the PHA is required, in addition to reaching at least 300 incentive points, in order to be able to earn a $300 reduction in your medical plan contributions or a $50 taxable gift card for employees not on the medical plan! 3. Take control of your health. Carewise Health is here to help! Call and select option # 1. In the meantime, below are some tips for setting the best goals for your health journey based on your PHA results. Be S.M.A.R.T. in setting health goals One of the best ways to improve your health habits is setting goals that are S.M.A.R.T.: Specific: State your goal as specifically as possible. (For example, don t just say lose weight. Make your goal lose 25 pounds in 6 months by exercising at least 5 days a week and cutting back on the amount of soda I drink. Measurable: Track the progress made on achieving your goal, which will help you stay motivated and identify roadblocks to overcome. Consider using the online Trackers. (For example, measure weight loss by weighing yourself every Wednesday morning before breakfast and writing it in a logbook. Better yet, also track your food and exercise each day so that you can see connections between those daily habits and your weekly weight measurement.) Attainable: Your goal should meaningful for you, so that you re motivated to follow through. Don t set a goal just because someone told you to, unless you re inspired to do it. (For example, your doctor may tell you to lose weight but you re not inspired by this goal. Instead, find a healthy goal that does motivate you, such as training for a charity run. There are many ways to achieve a single goal, so how you approach it matters a great deal!) Realistic: Goals should be ambitious, but not impossible. Break larger goals into smaller ones and celebrate each success. Line up
5 support you ll need. (For example, you may not be able to cut out soda cold turkey but you can start by replacing soda with water at dinner. Once you ve succeeded, set a follow-up goal to replace soda at lunch.) Time-Based: This is when you plan to finish achieving your goal. Be specific! (For example, I will lose 25 pounds in 6 months by losing about 1 pound each week. This way, you hold yourself accountable for making progress in shorter blocks of time and can identify obstacles that may be slowing down your progress.) Once your S.M.A.R.T. goal is set, write it down and sign it like you would any official document. Post this pledge where you can see it every day, such as at your desk or on the refrigerator. Here s a template: I will [your goal here] by [how you will do the goal]. I will know I am making progress because [how you will measure the goal] [time goes here]. Signed: Date: PS: Still haven t taken your PHA? It s not too late go online and take your PHA today: Visit Today s choices matter. Your health is your life. Plan to SUCCEED!
