2 photo: José Carlos Nunes de Oliveira photo: José Carlos Nunes de Oliveira Porto Cenário Bar R do Monchique Porto This project concerns the conversion of a small 50m2 restaurant into a Lounge Bar, at the riverside front in Porto, Massarelos Plastered stucco boards were placed around the walls, hanging over a contrasting dark wooden floor The customer s area was separated from the services and supporting spaces such as the sanitary, the kitchen and the DJ cabin, installed in half of the former restaurant kitchen After all, the DJ is the new coking master over here These fleshy spaces got moulded in orange juicy colours, contrasting with the white/beige painted main room The relation with the beautiful outside landscape was improved by emphasising the presence of the 4 existing windows as absences in the walls, inviting for contemplation The lighting as well the furniture was carefully chosen, out of vintage stores, in order to fulfil the client s will of spending few and creating an atmosphere that could be cosy, slightly minimalistic and sophisticated at the same time photo: José Carlos Nunes de Oliveira Project is public! 5 Casa das Artes Rua de Ruben A 4050 Porto The building is located in the gardens of a neo-classical mansion in Porto, dating from the beginning of the 20th century The program for the competition proposed a cinema, an auditorium and an exhibition gallery, as well as the conservation of the gardens as they were This is one of the first built projects of Eduardo Souto Moura It's mainly composed of two parallel granite stone walls, with all the programin the middle With a very minimalistic approach, this building is composed of great building details, reminding some of Mies Van der Rohe's characteristics Project is public! 1981, Interior architect Joao_Sousa Secretaria de Estado da Cultura Take a bus from the city center that passes on the street "Rua do Campo Alegre", or at the "Avenida da Boavista" From there it's easy to reach it by foot 5

6 Manoel de Oliveira Cinema House Rua de Viana de Lima 4150 Porto The Cinema House represents a significant change in the formal expression of A change of style that approaches this work to the formal expression of the architecture of Siza Vieira This building pretends to be similar to the surrounding houses, having some distortions to fit better on the plot The overall image resembles to the lens of the camera, with dynamic eyes like the insects, searching for the views to the see in between the buildings Project is public! 1998, Artist, Interior architect, Landscape architect, Urban planner Joao_Sousa Câmara Municipal do Porto Right now [November 2007] it's on restoration because it was left abandoned since it was finished By bus (number 78) on the "Avenida Marechal Gomes da Costa" till "Praça do Império" and after that by foot following the street "Rua de Bartolomeu Velho" 6

7 Housing Complex Rua Orfeão do Porto 4150 Porto Built in white reinforced concrete this housing complex is formed by two separate blocks connected by the mainly vertical access with the lift and the staircase All the floors are composed by an external gallery that connects all the appartments allowing them to face the great views of the sea and to receive good sunlight With a very simple and contemporary language this complex establishes new ways of drawing the housing complex in a simple and elegant manner 2007 Adalberto Dias Joao_Sousa Located on the western part of the city, right beside the "ring", it's easy to reach if you have the "Ipanema Park Hotel" as a reference point 7

8 Housing Block Rua do Teatro Porto This housing block situated on the western part of Porto, in front of the Atlantic ocean is a conceptual reinvention of the traditional urban houses of the XVIII century Instead of a stone structure, here the structure is in steel but is completely visible and separated from the other elements But at the same time there are traditional materials that were used on the façades, transposing the modern architecture into a more site related project 1995, Interior architect, Urban planner Joao_Sousa On the western part of Porto called "Foz" it's easy to reach From the avenue "Avenida do Brasil" that follows the coast line 8
