2 Why choose Bangor? enjoys an international reputation and we offer a full range of programmes in Accounting, Business Studies, Banking, Economics, Finance, Management and Marketing. You will receive an excellent introduction to all of the subjects the School teaches, while at the same time finding out which subjects are of most interest to you. If at the end of the first year you decide you d rather specialise in Marketing instead of Accounting, or viceversa, you can easily change degrees at that point. Around 1,000 students enrol at every year, with around 170 in each undergraduate year. This means we re large enough to offer a wide choice of subjects and the resources students normally expect, yet small enough for the personal touch. Right: A warm welcome to China, Below Right: Enjoying some free time on Xuanwu Lake in Nanjing. Above: Students having personal messages written out in traditional Chinese calligraphy in the mini Suzhou Village of the Summer Palace in Beijing. 18 students and four members of staff set out from Manchester on a cold Monday morning with Shanghai as their first destination. Most of the students were on the first year Chinese Business and Language module, which aims to equip students with an understanding of the language and commercial skills required for dealing with the world s largest nation, and on which students are offered this optional 10-day field trip to some of China s major cities. The first three days of the trip were spent in Shanghai where the group travelled to the top of China s tallest building and took an evening boat tour along the Huangpu River. En-route to their next destination, Nanjing, the Bangor University cohort paid a visit to the Humble Administrators Garden in Suzhou, a World Heritage site considered to be one of the finest gardens in China. Upon arriving in Nanjing, the group checked into the International Student Halls of Hohai University for their three-day stay. While there, they took part in some cultural activities including Tai Chi lessons and traditional Chinese calligraphy and painting as well as visiting Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum and Xuanwu Lake Park. This epic trip concluded with a stay in Beijing, China s capital city, which was reached by the famous 300-kph Bullet train. Beijing offered the group the opportunity to visit some of China s most famous sights and landmarks, including Tian anmen Square, the Forbidden City, the Summer Palace, the Great Wall of China and the Bird s Nest Olympic Stadium

From Bangor to Brussels: Law and Business students unite on European tour Students from Bangor University s Law and Business Schools recently united to visit some of the key institutions of the European Union and the Council of Europe thanks to sponsorship from Jill Evans, Welsh Member of the European Parliament. This unique and long-running field trip aims to provide students with a better understanding of the roles of the various institutions of the European Union and the Council of Europe. The students political tour of Europe began in Brussels, where they visited the European Commission, the Committee of the Regions, the Economic and Social Committee and the European Council. Next stop was Luxembourg, where the group were able to meet with Bangor Law School alumnus Thomas Seligmann, who himself attended the field trip last year and is now working for Amazon at their Luxembourg offices. The following day offered a visit to the European Court of Justice and European Court of Human Rights of the Council. Later that evening, the group stopped off at the European Parliament in Strasbourg, where they met sponsor Jill Evans and sat in on a parliamentary session. This was followed by a visit to the Council of Europe main building, where they were welcomed by Spokesperson and Head of the Press Division Alun Drake, with the trip concluding in style in Paris. Study Trip to London Undergraduate students studying various Bangor Business School degrees have visited some of the key institutions of London during a field trip to the capital. The purpose of the London Field Study module is to enable students to acquire a better understanding of the role and function of specific organisations, including the Bank of England, the Houses of Parliament, the Competition Commission and the United Nations Association. This year, the visit was extra memorable as the Bangor students were present for the Chancellor s much-anticipated Budget announcement at the Houses of Parliament on Wednesday, 20th March. From the public galleries, they were able to witness this key event, as well as the Prime Minister s Questions. Right: Outside the Houses of Parliament, London. This was amazing I can t believe we were that close to the Prime Minister. It really felt like we were experiencing something special, especially as it was Budget day.
