2 1. Changes to CWH, DRANZCOG and DRANZCOG Advanced Curriculum and Assessment Requirements In 2014, the CCDOG Education and Assessment Subcommittee undertook a small scale review of the new Certificate of Women s Health (CWH) and the revised DRANZCOG and DRANZCOG Advanced which were introduced in August As part of this review, feedback was sought from key stakeholders, including recently qualified Certificants and Diplomates and Training Mentors and Supervisors. This feedback directly informed the amendments that have been made to the learning outcomes and assessment for each qualification. New and Revised Regulations In July 2015, the RANZCOG Board approved revisions to the following Regulations: F Satisfactory Completion of the CWH (CWH trainees) Trainees undertaking the CWH are now required to attend a CWH Workshop organised by RANZCOG or an approved equivalent as part of the requirements of the Training Program and in order to be certified as a Certificant. F1.7 - CWH Written Examination (CWH trainees) In keeping with the reduction of the number of attempts available to trainees in the FRANZCOG Training Program, the RANZCOG Board approved a recommendation from the CCDOG that CWH trainees have a maximum of three (3) attempts at the CWH Written Examination. F2.7 - DRANZCOG Written and Oral Examinations (DRANZCOG trainees) In keeping with the reduction of the number of attempts available to trainees in the FRANZCOG Training Program, the RANZCOG Board approved a recommendation from the CCDOG that DRANZCOG trainees have a maximum of three (3) attempts at the written and oral examinations. To read the updated regulations please go to: 3. Important Information - Approved Assessors for CWH/Diploma In-Training Skills Logs and Clinical Procedures Logs The intention of in-training assessment is that clinical skills are assessed as the trainee performs them during normal day-to-day work. Assessors must work closely with the trainee so that judgment of performance is based on direct knowledge of the trainee s clinical performance. An Assessor can be either the official Training Supervisor OR any practitioner who is: a holder of the DRANZCOG or DRANZCOG Advanced; trainees who have satisfactorily completed at least four years of the FRANZCOG Training Program (including passing the MRANZCOG Written and Oral Examinations); specialist IMG applicants who have been assessed as either Substantially Comparable or Partially Comparable to an Australian-trained specialist and who are working towards Fellowship of the College; a Fellow of the RANZCOG (FRANZCOG) a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (Paediatrics) i.e. assessment of a neonate for that specific trainee and that particular assessment. Assessors must: directly observe the trainee performing the skill; and have current and appropriate practice to make an accurate assessment of the skill. 3

4 NOTE: Trainees CANNOT use an assessor who does not hold one of the qualifications listed above. Assessments signed off by a non-approved assessor are invalid. The only exceptions to this are those Workplace-based Assessment assessment forms which indicate that practitioners with other appropriate qualifications can sign off e.g. FRACP paediatrician for the examination of a neonate WBA. 4. External Exam Revision Courses Important Notice Some trainees have reported that they have been contacted by the organisers of external examination revision and preparation courses. Trainees are advised that the RANZCOG is only responsible for the content and information given to trainees in the examination revision and preparation courses run by the College. The RANZCOG has no connection with any external course offering examination revision. 5. Approval of Eligible Training Supervisors for CWH/Diploma Trainees At present, the regulations governing the approval process of CWH/DRANZCOG/DRANZCOG Advanced Training Mentors and Training Supervisors require all new applicants to submit an application for approval to the Training, Accreditation and Recertification (TAR) Subcommittee. But up to 70 per cent of practitioners applying for these roles have already been approved by their regional Training Accreditation Committee to become ITP/Elective Training Supervisors. Consequently, it has been agreed by the TAR Subcommittee (and approved by the CCDOG Executive) that as from July 2013 if a supervisor has been vetted through this process it will be considered adequate for approval as a CWH/DRANZCOG/DRANZCOG Training Mentor or Training Supervisor. However, the standard approval process will be required where the applicant is not already an approved ITP/Elective Training Supervisor. 6.
