We look forward to having you join us this Fall! If there has been a change in your living situation and you need to cancel your housing, please access and complete the Residential Life Cancellation Form. Please pay special attention to the cancellation requirements for housing. Thank you! MOVE - IN dates and times FRESHMEN MOVE IN AUGUST 12, 2015 Your move in time is from 8:00AM to 8:00PM. Once you ve arranged payment with the Business Office, you are invited to proceed directly to your assigned hall. RETURNING STUDENTS MOVE IN AUGUST 14, 2015 Your move in time is from 8:00AM to 8:00PM. Once you ve arranged payment with the Business Office, you are invited to proceed directly to your assigned hall. Halls Traditional Willie C. Robinson Hall (FEMALE) Ray Goode Hall (MALE) Living & Learning Communities (LLCs) LLC2 (FEMALE) LLC3 (MALE) LLC4 (FEMALE) Security The safety of our communities remain paramount. All Halls are secured and are equipped with a monitoring system. Trained staff are also available to students. Laundry Self-service laundry facilities can be found in each of the residence halls. Please be sure to equip yourself with a laundry bag or basket and detergent! FREE Internet FMU provides FREE wireless internet services to all registered members and guests of the community. Cable TV All rooms are wired with cable television offered through the university s college cable system. Furniture All spaces are equipped with one (1) TWIN bed, one (1) Dresser, one (1) Desk area and one (1) Chair per student. The Living and Learning Community living room areas are fully furnished and includes a mini kitchen area. The rooms are NOT equipped with microwaves or refrigerators. Cooking is PROHIBITED in ALL of the residence halls.
2 BEFORE YOU MOVE IN Prepare for Move-In Day Pack only the essentials. Moderate size boxes or storage bins are easy to pack and convenient to carry. Carts will also be available, but on a first come first serve basis. Therefore, it is suggested that you consider bringing your own cart or dolly. Please note that the university does not provide storage on campus, so please ensure that the necessary arrangements are made for storage. Suggested items to bring: Please note that NO cooking appliance will be allowed. If you are found with such, you may be fined and it will be confiscated. 3 BEFORE YOU MOVE IN Housing Payment Housing fees must be paid by the established University deadline for each semester. Payments can be made via the University Bursar at (305) If you are not deferred by Financial Aid you must pay your student account in full or be enrolled in a payment plan by the established date before being issued a key. For a schedule of payments, please visit our website at Insurance FMU does not provide property insurance. You are encouraged to check your family s homeowner policies, or to carry your own insurance. You are welcome to inquire at the Residential Life office for possible options. Parking All resident vehicles must be affixed with a parking decal and can only be parked in permitted areas. To obtain a parking permit, you may visit the FMU Campus Safety Department or call them at (305) All bicycles must be registered with the Campus Safety Department. Please ensure that you are equipped with the necessary tools to secure your bicycle. Residential Mail Services Each individual is assigned a mailbox. Letter mail and packages can be accessed through the university mail room Monday through Friday between its operational hours of 8:00am 5:00pm. University identification is required when accessing packages outside of your letterbox. Due to very limited space in our mailroom, we are unable to hold large packages for a period of time, so please plan accordingly. US mail is delivered to the mail room Monday through Friday. 4 WHEN YOU ARRIVE Go to your Residence Hall Once you ve CLEARED the business office, students are asked to proceed directly to their assigned halls. You must present your student ID and may be asked to present your cleared documents when checking in. What you will receive upon arrival You will be required to complete several documents: Occupancy Agreement Residential Life Housing Contract to be completed by EVERY student. Emergency Contact Form Provides the department with a contact in case of emergencies. Expectation Form (Required for those residing in the LLCs) General expectations of residents within the hall A Room Assessment Form You must check the room for prior to move in. This form will be used at check out to assess if any damages have occurred. If so, you will be responsible for paying such fees. Key(s): You will be issued a key to your room upon the completion of all of the above documents. Meet your RA Your RA is your Resident Advisor. Mostly upperclassmen living in your area, these students are trained to work with other residents to establish a sense of community for all residential students. Your RA is a great resource who can help answer questions regarding the university and your immediate surrounding communities. They are available to assist in roommate conflicts, maintenance concerns and other issues of interest. Throughout the year, they are tasked with planning various programs and activities with, and for, the residents. NO CLEARANCE; NO KEY!
