1 Algebra II (2 hr. class) prerequisite Algebra I Tutor: Kayla Sanchez Revival Christian Academy Classes Fall 2014 Monday Class Descriptions Class Description: This one year course will cover topics such as systems of equations, matrices and Determinants and exponential, logarithmic, and polynomial functions, using Teaching Textbooks curriculum. Teaching Textbooks, Algebra textbook, and Answer book (ISBN X) Basic Guitar Class Description: This class is for beginners. Student will learn basic chords and playing skills using songs of Worship. Biology Tutor: Diana Miller Class Description: This class is a survey of Biology, life and it s origins. Dr. J. Wile thoroughly discusses the authenticity of a Creator proven in science and I will passionately get kids to see God did that!. We will be discussing all 16 modules, completing 2-3 experiments per lab day, doing microscope work, and of course dissections! Each student will have their own dissection animal ( except for the pig) so he/she can get the most out the process. There will be lectures, videos and discussions to enrich this class. Chapter tests will be taken in class and a lab notebook is required. Exploring Creation with Biology (2nd Ed.) Student Text & Test/Solutions (2-Book Set) ISBN: Chemistry Class Description: This is a one year introductory level chemistry class using Exploring Creation with Chemistry from Apologia. Course topics include the metric system, significant figures, measurements, thermodynamics (heat and energy), structure of atoms and molecules, types of molecular bonding, physical states of matter, trends in the periodic table, chemical reactions, stoichiometry, chemical formulas, solution chemistry, acids and bases, and reduction-oxidation reaction. The course includes experiments designed to reinforce the topics covered and give hands on application of theories. Students should have a good knowledge of basic algebra. 2 Dave Ramsey Money Management Tutor: Elizabeth Galvan Class Description: This class is to help prepare high school students financially. Our desire is to help them learn how to manage their money before they graduate. Most of us did not learn until we were in debt or heading for bankruptcy. So, my desire is to teach them about finance, so each student may practice what they have learned for the rest of their adult hood. We will be using the well known Dave Ramsey curriculum which consists of 4 units: Unit 1: Saving and Investing Unit 2: Credit and Debt Unit 3: Financial Responsibility and Money Management Unit 4: Insurance/Risk Management and Income/Careers Foundations Homeschool Workbook ISBN; (order at daveramsey.com) Fundamentals of Cartooning Tutor: Mark Hernandez Class Description: The fundamentals for cartooning and storytelling will provide you the tools you'll need to create an construct your own characters and the world they live in. From the essentials of life drawing and design this will give you a solid foundation in the areas of entertainment art. We will cover various areas of cartooning such as character design, to caricaturing, to storytelling through sequential art (comics). Many of these areas of cartooning are very much linked up, from comics, to animation, to graphic design Supplies Needed: Good size sketchbook 8 1/2x11 or larger, pens and pencils (preferably mechanical pencils for technical drawing), erasers, a kol-erase pencil for quick sketches, and a ruler. A good ink pen to ink such as rapidiograph pen or micronpens. It's been my experience to use a pens or brushes with solid black ink such as India ink for the best results. watercolors or color pencils (prisma color pencils) General Literature and Composition Tutor: Kayla Sanchez Class Description: In this introduction to literature, students will learn how to develop critical thinking skills and discuss their opinions in a class setting based on the novels read. We will be studying poetry and novels chosen from a range of time periods. Students will also learn the basics of essay writing for high school, writing an essay for each novel read as well as a larger Super Essay in the second semester. Employing the same style and structure of the Latin for Children series, this primer emphasizes parts of speech and grammar as vital for correctly speaking and understanding Spanish. 37 weekly chapters include 8 review chapters; students will use chants to aid memorization, learn 290 common words and grammar concepts like verb conjugation, tenses, and noun gender; weekly worksheets and quizzes allow for evaluation.
