3 Circular letter No.2621 VACANCY NOTICE NO POST : Translator, Russian Translation Section, Translation Services, Conference Division DUTY STATION : London, United Kingdom GRADE : P.3 STARTING SALARY : NATURE OF APPOINTMENT : DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : US$52, net per annum for a staff member with primary dependants, and US$49, net per annum at the single rate. For additional information on emoluments and other entitlements, see the attached summary. Fixed-term of two years with the possibility of prolongation. Under the immediate supervision of the Head, Russian Translation Section and the overall direction of the Director, Conference Division, the incumbent will: 1. Translate from English (and French) into Russian, sometimes on self-revised basis, texts of a highly technical nature concerning maritime matters (ship construction, tonnage measurement, radio communications, safety of navigation, oil pollution etc.) as well as other texts concerning the general activities of the Organization; 2. Carry out any other duties related to the activities of the Translation Services, particularly in the field of terminology; and 3. Work night shifts during meetings. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE : a) Russian mother tongue; b) University Degree, preferably in languages and/or technical discipline, such as marine science and technology, telecommunications, navigation, chemistry etc.; c) Excellent knowledge of English. Knowledge of French and/or Spanish will be an advantage; d) Ability to draft in clear and concise language; e) Good knowledge of modern software applications in the translation field and ability to use on-line sources of information; f) Ability to work as part of a team, often under pressure and with minimum supervision; and g) Several years experience of translation, preferably in an international organization.

5 - 3 - Circular letter No.2621 Vacancy Notice No SUMMARY OF CERTAIN CONDITIONS APPLICABLE TO THE PROFESSIONAL CATEGORY STAFF OF THE IMO SECRETARIAT * SALARY The base salary of P.3 step I is US$52, (dependency rate) or US$49, (single rate) and is free of income tax in the United Kingdom. The main allowances and deductions are as follows: Cost-of-living Adjustment The Staff Regulations provide for the payment of a "post adjustment" allowance in addition to the base salary. This payment is made to preserve the equivalent standards of living at different duty stations by the application of an allowance based on relative costs of living, standards of living, exchange rate and related factors at the duty station as compared to New York. The amount is determined by multiplying one percent of the net base salary by a multiplier reflecting the classification of the duty station concerned. The current multiplier is 61.1 the exchange rate is to the US$. Dependency Allowance US$1, per annum for each dependent child. Where there is no dependent spouse, a single annual allowance of US$ for either a dependent parent, a dependent brother or a dependent sister. Education Grant For a staff member whose duty station is outside his or her home country, an education grant up to a maximum of 13,714** annually per child is paid under certain conditions for children attending school or university in or outside the home country of the staff member. Rental Subsidy Under certain circumstances a rental subsidy may be granted to staff members newly arrived at the duty station when the rent represents a significant proportion of the total remuneration. Repatriation Grant A repatriation grant designed to assist a staff member to re-establish in his or her home country is paid on separation from service. The amount of the grant is proportional to the length of service and family status is also taken into account. * The exact terms and conditions of appointments to the IMO Secretariat are laid down in the Staff Regulations and Rules of the Organization. ** This amount is applicable to the U.K. Details of amounts expressed in local currency, applicable to other countries can be provided on request.

6 Circular letter No Vacancy Notice No PENSION FUND Staff members with appointments for six months or longer will become participants in the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund involving contribution by the staff member of 7.9 per cent of his or her pensionable remuneration (at present US$96,302.00) with the Organization contributing 15.8 per cent. MEDICAL INSURANCE LEAVE IMO staff members shall also become participants in the Group medical, hospital and dental insurance scheme for United Nations staff. Annual Leave 30 working days per year on full salary. Home Leave A staff member whose duty station is outside the home country is entitled, once in every two years, to visit with eligible dependants, the place of his or her recognized home at the expense of the Organization. Sick Leave Up to three months on full salary in any period of 12 consecutive months. TRAVEL AND REMOVAL EXPENSES Travel The Organization pays the cost of travel on appointment and, provided more than one year's service has been completed, on separation. Provided appointment is for one year or longer, travel costs are met for eligible dependants. Assignment Grant Provided the appointment is for one year or longer, the Organization pays an assignment grant, at present at the rate of per day for the staff member and per day for each eligible dependant, for a period of 30 days after arrival in London. Removal The Organization pays the cost of removal of a staff member's personal effects and household goods, provided the appointment is for a period of two years or longer.
