3 What is Structured Wiring? Conventional Load Center Structured wiring is very similar to a home's electrical system, which includes a load center connected to an external service entrance wire. It has circuit breakers attached that send electricity down smaller electrical lines, which run through the walls, ending at outlets throughout the house. The structured wiring network center works the same as the load center in that it is connected to external data lines (telephone, cable television, satellite and internet). Inside the network center each incoming signal is split and sent down wires to efficiently distribute a variety of data signals thoughout the house. Customized Modular Networking for Every Budget Siemens network center's modular design supports a multitude of modules for computer networking, Internet access, fax, modem, audio and video distribution, HVAC control, security, CCTV, lighting control and more. With Siemens structured wiring systems you can tailor a configuration that meets your needs today, and expand and enhance your system in the future. Structured wiring uses a "home run" or "star topology" configuration. This means that each set of signal wires runs to only one outlet. This is in contrast to "daisy chaining", which means one line connects to many rooms. Daisy chaining introduces problems, as the signal quality at the end of the line is much lower than at the beginning of the line. By Structured Wiring Modular Network Center running all of the signal lines through the network center you can easily change configurations within your home. An infant's room that was installed with a CCTV monitor connection can easily be changed to a cable Internet connection as the child gets older. An extra bedroom connected to the network center can easily be changed into a home office with a second phone line, fax connection and Internet access.
