2 Module 1.1: Training Objective The objective of this module is to provide detailed product training to the participant of this course. The trainee when they have completed the course should have an understanding of all the different features and functions of the Mobile ChromeLab including troubleshooting. They should also be able to advise users in school how to use the different functions to best achieve their work goals Overview of the ChromeLab Components These are the components that make up a ChromeLab: COMPONENT QUANTITY Chromebook Cart 1 Samsung Chromebooks 41 (36 Wi-Fi model and 5 Wi-Fi/4G model) Headset with built-in microphone 41 Yes Super Zoom 1 Access Point (EnZGenius EAP600) 1 Peplink Content Delivery Appliance (MFA 300) 1 HP LASERJET PRO 400W Cloud Printer 1 HDMI - VGA Cable 1 Portable Box 1 Set of cables and ties 1

3 1.1.2 Chromebook Cart Side view Rear view Front view The Chromebook Carts main purpose is to charge and store all 41 Chromebooks when not in use. The top of the cart can also be used to store and power the Super Zoom, Content Delivery Appliance (CDA) and the Access Point. Power Power to the cart is provided by a single standard 13 amp plug and is therefore standard voltage. Each cart is fitted with a surge protector to avoid damage during lightning strikes or electrical surges. It is recommended that the cart should never be used without the surge protector being installed. Charging The cart has 3 trays on which Chromebooks can be placed on. Each tray can be turned on or off depending on which tray of Chromebooks are required to charge. Each tray can hold and charge a maximum of 14 Chromebooks. Mobility On the base of the cart are 4 lockable wheels that can be securely locked to avoid the cart moving when pushed.

4 1.1.3 Yes Super Zoom What is a Yes Super Zoom? The Yes 4G Super Zoom provides the Lab with high-speed 4G Internet connectivity. Unlike other Zooms the Super Zoom does not transmit a Wi-Fi signal directly to the Chromebooks. Instead, it acts as an Internet gateway, providing internet connectivity whenever the AP/CDA requires it. In the ChromeLab it is the Access Point that transmits the Wi-Fi signal to the Chromebooks not the Super Zoom. What do the LED indicators on the Super Zoom mean? 1. The top 5 LEDs represent 4G signal strength. 5 bars being strongest and 1 bar being low signal. If the lowest 4G LED blinks, it indicates that Zoom is not connected to Yes network. During a firmware update, these LEDs will blink in an up and down fashion. 2. The Wi-Fi LED indicator shows whether the Wi-Fi network is enabled. It will also blink when data is transmitted or received over Wi-Fi. 3. The Voice LED indicator shows whether voice service is available. It will blink when voice service is being used. 4. The LAN LED indicator shows whether a device is being connected via RJ-45 cable. It will blink when data is transmitted and received over LAN. 5. The Power LED indicates whether the modem is turned on. Yes Super Zoom FAQ s My 4G LED indicators are blinking in an up and down motion. What does that mean? 1. The Zoom is currently performing a firmware update over the air. The 4G LED indicators will return to their normal states when this is completed. It typically takes approximately 5 minutes or less depending on the Internet connectivity speed the Zoom is experiencing.

5 Does the Zoom have to be pointed to a particular direction for best 4G coverage and performance? 1. The Zoom is equipped with a multi-directional high gain antenna that allows it to be placed on any direction. For best performance, place the Zoom near any window Peplink Content Delivery Appliance (MFA 300) The Peplink media fast (MFA-300) is an all-in-one Video/Content Delivery Appliance (CDA) which helps cut huge upstream bandwidth usage and expenses while delivering video, learning apps, and other web-based instructional content for the mobile lab internet usage. It has an internal storage capacity of 250GB and will store content for 30 days. Deletion of content is by First in First Out whereby after 30 days the oldest content will be written over and replaced by newer content. The Content Delivery Appliance (CDA) reduces the usage amount of internet bandwidth required when browsing videos, learning apps or any web-based resources. For example, if a whole class wants to access an online video, the Cache Server will store the video in order to reduce bandwidth consumption and speed up the loading time. 7 What is the difference between a LAN Port and a WAN Port? Generally speaking, the WAN port connects to the Internet, and the LAN port accommodates wired Ethernet computers. Both ports share these features: They accept standard RJ-45 Ethernet connectors. They are designed not to allow accidental insertion of an RJ-11 telephone connector. Note: Do not plug in anything to port 2 and 3. It may disturb the Mobile Lab Performance. What content cannot be cached? There are certain materials that the CDA will not store. These are: Live streaming video or audio streaming (live internet TV or internet radio). Data transmitted using https or other secured/encrypted connections like SFTP or VPN Any content that has not been fully downloaded previously Access Point (EnZGenius EAP600)

8 The EAP600 is a wireless-11n 600Mbps (300Mbps + 300Mbps) high power Dual Band concurrent Access Point. It allows simultaneous operation of a 2.4GHz and a 5GHz wireless network. The device is used to provide Wi-Fi access to the devices inside the ChromeLab. It supports up to 42 simultaneous connections for each ChromeLab. Access Point (EnZGenius EAP600) FAQ s What is the function of the LED indicator lights? NO. DESCRIPTION ACTION 1. Wi-Fi indicator light If data is being transmitted then the light will blink 2. 5GHz indicator light If device is enable 5GHz channel then the light will be ON 3 2.4GHz indicator light If device is enable 2.4GHz channel then the light will be ON 4. LAN port indicator light If device is connected with a LAN cable and data is transmitted then the light will blink 5. Power indicator light When device is powered ON then the light will ON

9 Where is the On/Off button for the AP? There is no on/off button on the AP because it obtains power direct from an AC wall socket like any consumer electronic device. How do I know if the AP is switched ON? 1. Plug one end of the AC adaptor into the power port of the AP and the other end to the wall socket. 2. Make sure power socket is ON. 3. If the Power Indicator light is still not lit then the device is faulty. What can I do if the LAN Port indicator light is not ON? 1. Plug one end of the Ethernet cable into the AP LAN port and other end to the Content Delivery Appliance LAN port. 2. Make sure the Content Delivery Appliance is powered ON. 3. If the Power Indicator light is still not lit then the device is faulty. I still have no internet connectivity after connecting to the AP. What do I do next? 1. From your computer, make sure you set the Wireless Network connection to obtain an IP address automatically. 2. HP Laserjet PRO 400 Cloud Printer FAQ s What is Google Cloud Print? Google Cloud Print is a new technology that connects your printers to the web. Using Google Cloud Print, you can make your home and work printers available to you and anyone else you choose, from within the applications you use every day. Google Cloud Print works on your phone, tablet, Chromebook, PC, and any other web-connected device you want to print from. How do I share the printer? To allow others to use the Cloud Printer you must first share the printer with others. A step by step guide to printer sharing can be accessed here: Surge Protector What is a Surge Protector? A surge protector is a device that shields computers and other electronic devices from surges in electrical power, or transient voltage, that flow from the power supply.

11 How does a Surge Protector work? A surge protector works by channelling the extra voltage into the outlet's grounding wire, preventing it from flowing through the electronic devices while at the same time allowing the normal voltage to continue along its path. Electrical surges can damage computer equipment by burning its wires or gradually over time wearing down the device's internal components. Surges can even wipe out any saved data. Surge protectors can also protect telephone and cable lines as these also carry electric current. How do I use the Surge Protector? Plug in the Surge Protector to your power source. Then plug in the main power plug of the ChromeLab cart to the Surge Protector. WARNING! It is your responsibility to ensure that the wires from the external power source to the Cart are properly insulated and earthed. The Surge Protector is not a failsafe. Lack of proper insulation and earthing could lead to electrocution even with the Surge Protector plugged in Headsets Each ChromeLab consists of 41 headsets. Headsets must be plugged into the 3.5mm combined headphone/microphone socket as shown below. Note: The headphones have a built in microphone. Audio volume is controlled using the Chromebook volume controls; there are no audio controls on the headsets.
