2 COURSE STRUCTURE Kings On Campus With Kings based right on campus at your chosen university you have the best of both worlds. You will be a full member of the university, integrating with American students and taking degree classes with them. But you also have access to the Kings Center based on campus. Here you can access the specialist academic and personal support you might need as an international student whenever you need it and for as long as you need it. Kings On Campus Specialist Courses Kings delivers a range of courses right on campus. They are carefully designed to integrate with, and prepare you for, your degree program. These courses are taken either before or during your Undergraduate Year 1*, and are flexible to suit your specific needs. Kings on Campus Specialist Support Alongside the help you will receive from the faculty at your chosen university, you will also have dedicated support from staff at our Kings Center on campus. See back page for details. See chart below and internal pages for details. KINGS COURSES UNDERGRADUATE YEAR 1* YEARS 2 4** Undergraduate Preparation Program From TOEFL 20 Develops Academic English, study skills, and TOEFL skills to prepare you for your degree. Main Academic Degree Program From TOEFL 61 (15 section minimum): Taught by the faculty of your host college/university SAT/Academic Development/Extracurricular Support Delivered on campus by Kings in conjunction with your undergraduate program. Complete your degree at your choice of university KINGS COURSES MASTERS YEAR 1 Key Graduate Preparation Program From TOEFL 20 Academic English development plus specialist research and study skills required at graduate level. Graduate degree program Courses taught by Kings Courses taught by your host university Courses taught by the USA university of your choice * Years 1 and 2 in California ** Years 3 and 4 in California

3 KINGS COURSES Undergraduate Preparation Program The Undergraduate Preparation Program is a specialized course of study delivered at the Kings Center on campus. It is designed to equip you with the language skills needed for degree-level study in English. Depending on your language level and intended degree path, you can attend the program for as many terms as you need prior to your degree course classes. Key information Course Length: Varies. Minimum 1 term Start Dates: 2015: 5 January, 30 March, 22 June, 14 Sept 2016: 4 January, 28 March, 20 June, 12 Sept Lessons: Each term provides 280 hours of instruction. You will have an average of 25 hours of lessons each week, plus 12 to 15 hours of private study. Minimum Age: 16 Maximum Class Size: 12 Minimum Entry Level: TOEFL 20 Progression On average, students progress by approximately 15 points on the TOEFL range each term. Fast learners may progress at a quicker rate. If you proceed slower than the average rate, you can easily follow an additional term until you achieve the required level. Structure The program can be studied for a minimum of 1 term, and for as long as you need depending on your language level when you start and your rate of progress. It is designed to be highly intensive, and includes: Individual attention in small groups Regular tutorials so that tutors and the Program Manager can provide individual guidance Frequent progress tests Regular reports Skills Developed The program will enable you to: Become familiar with the US higher education system Become familiar with the style of language used in academic texts Increase reading and writing speed Expand your vocabulary, especially in relation to academic subjects Identify key information in texts Organize and set out information clearly, orally and in writing Identify and analyze the main argument in a text or presentation Express ideas and opinions logically, confidently and appropriately Learn to challenge the ideas of others and present contrasting views Write papers and other common researchbased written assignments, develop small group projects and fine tune your presentation skills Program content 1. English for Academic Study This is a specialist course designed to prepare you for the intellectual and linguistic demands of degree-level study in the USA. 2. Academic Study Skills Module 1: General Academic/Study Skills This module will enable you to: Read critically about the real world and apply theoretical knowledge to dynamic real world situations Articulate a view while analyzing alternatives objectively Focus on the main features in a lecture and take concise and relevant notes Gather assignment information from a range of written and verbal sources Interpret graphical information Construct coherent written arguments and oral presentations using language appropriate to the subject and to the style of presentation Support these by appropriate use of tables, maps, charts and diagrams Module 2: Data Handling and Information Technology The module will enable you to: Structure, store and analyze numerical and non-numerical data making sophisticated use of generic computer packages such as MS Excel and Access Make sophisticated use of document handling software to present text and data together with clarity Represent data using a variety of graphical forms Analyze numerical data using standard statistical methods Appreciate the application of statistics to modeling real-world situations Understand notions of statistical testing 3. TOEFL Preparation Access to online TOEFL skills training Three practice tests Regular personal updates Sample Pathways = one term of Undergraduate Preparation, prior to your first year of degree study Year 1 of your degree 80 Year 1 of your degree

4 KINGS COURSES High School Completion Program The High School Completion Program gives students aged 16+ a head start in their path to a US degree. The Program consists of a class-based Undergraduate Preparation Program plus academic subject modules. The academic modules are delivered via an online program in a monitored environment with a Kings facilitator. Key information Start Dates: 2015: 5 January, 30 March, 22 June, 14 Sept 2016: 4 January, 28 March, 20 June, 12 Sept Course Length: 3 months* Entry Requirements: English: Minimum TOEFL 61 (If you are below this level, you can take additional terms of Undergraduate Preparation before the course) Academic: Completion of High School to Year 11 with documented proof of good grades Minimum Age: 16 * Pending transcript evaluation. Remaining coursework may be completed during the first semester of the Undergraduate program. Your High School Diploma Minimum 5.5 credits are required to earn your US High School Diploma Course structure 1. The Undergraduate Preparation Program 15 hours per week class-based lessons. This intensive, class-based course integrates with and prepares your for your degree program. See left page for more details. 2. The Academic Syllabus Approximately 10 hours per week of monitored structured study dependent on credits needed for program completion. This carries on from the point you have reached at your home high school. Accreditation Penn Foster High School is accredited for grades 9 adult by the Commission on Secondary Schools of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. It is also accredited by the Accrediting Commission of the Distance Education and Training Council (DETC). Licensing Penn Foster High School is licensed by the Pennsylvania State Board of Private Licensed Schools.

5 KINGS COURSES Graduate Preparation Program Test Preparation NO COST KINGS COURSES Your Degree Program UNIVERSITY COURSE If you are qualified to undergraduate level and want to prepare for a US Graduate Degree this program is the ideal choice. Key information Course Length: Varies. Minimum 1 term. Start Dates: 5 January 2015, 4 January 2016 Lessons: Each term provides 280 hours of instruction. You will have an average of 25 hours of lessons each week, plus 12 to 15 hours of private study. Minimum Age: 21 Maximum Class Size: 12 Entry Requirements: English: from TOEFL 20 to TOEFL 80, depending on number of terms and outcome. Academic: Be in third year of a first degree. Minimum GPA 2.5. Documented proof of good grades. (Note: students will need to have graduated to be eligible for university placement services.) Core skills development: Academic writing Academic reading Presentations and seminar skills Listening and academic discourse Course content 1. Academic Preparation 2. Personal University Counseling Program structure overview Term 1: Structured tasks to develop communication of complex ideas; supporting opinions with evidence. Term 2: Developing critical thinking. During year one of your undergraduate course you can benefit from free specialist Test Preparation delivered at the Kings Center. This is designed to prepare you fully for the exam which you may need to proceed with an undergraduate program. SAT The SAT is a globally recognized test used by some US colleges and universities. Sections: Critical Reading, Math and Writing Course components include: Practice Tests (SAT paper and pencil tests; SAT online tests) Self-paced course material Interactive lessons Drills Extra homework problems in printable format Glossary of most used SAT terms Learner-centric course map Book-marking Practice tests for the SAT As soon as you complete your specialist preparation course at the Kings Center on campus, you can transition straight to your main degree program. Study with American Students Your undergraduate degree program is taught by university faculty and you will study alongside American students from the very beginning. You will follow the course in the same way as your American classmates. Subject Streams Depending on your chosen university and the pathway you choose, you will take a broad range of classes. Academic Credits After the first one or two years of your degree course you will gain sufficient academic credits to complete your degree at your chosen university, or transfer to a new school to study your major and complete your degree.
