POST-SECONDARY ACCEPTANCE 71% of the Senior Class was accepted to a Post- Secondary Institution COMPETENCY-BASED GRADING The competency-based assessment and evaluation system at Pittsfield Middle High School is founded on common expectations for high levels of student learning. Each course has a set of established core competencies that describe what students are expected to know and be able to do as a result of completing the course's learning requirements. The chart below details the level of expectation with the corresponding rubric score, letter, and numerical grade. RUBRIC SCORE LETTER GRADE NUMERICAL GRADE A B C F STUDENT CENTERED & MULTIPLE PATHWAYS Student centered learning is at the core of Pittsfield Middle High School and our community. All students create and maintain personal learning plans that allow students to connect learning to their interests, passions, and future ambitions. Students may engage in extended learning opportunities (ELOs), online courses, dual enrollment courses, learning studios, etc. to increase their exposure to relevant, real-world learning experiences guided by student interest and motivation. These learning experiences encompass a rigorous set of competencies which students must master. Student voice and choice are foundational components of the student centered approach. Site Council - A decision making body composed of students, educators, parents and community members, that will review, modify and make decisions regarding areas of high interest including but not limited to procedures, practices, and policies or structures in order to have a positive impact on the educational process and school climate. Restorative Justice - The Justice Committee works to provide students with an alternative to traditional discipline methods utilizing student voice and choice. We believe that giving our students an opportunity to be an integral part in helping to restore injustices made within the school community is empowering and aligned with student centered learning.
