1 Auto Image Replication A Hands-On Experience Hands-On Lab Description Get hands on with Auto Image Replication in this self-paced lab session that includes several exercises emulating different scenarios involving replicating backups between NetBackup domains in geographically remote sites. This lab assumes a basic working knowledge of NetBackup and, in particular, MSDP disk storage. However the environment is pre-configured and you are not required to configure the storage itself. At the end of this lab, you should be able to Define SLPs for both the source and target side of an Auto Image Replication setup Apply the credentials for a remote storage server to an existing storage server Understand the concept of target retention Understand what attributes are applied to a target domain SLP when it is automatically created. Understand the concepts of bi-directional, one to many, many to one and cascaded replication Notes for the Instructor Lead lab A brief presentation will introduce this lab session and discuss key concepts. The lab will be directed and provide you with step-by-step walkthroughs of key features. Feel free to follow the lab using the instructions on the following pages. You can optionally perform this lab at your own pace. Be sure to ask your instructor any questions you may have. Thank you for coming to our lab session.
2 Notes for the Self Paced lab The lab will be directed and provide you with step-by-step walkthroughs of key features. Feel free to follow the lab using the instructions on the following pages. You can optionally perform this lab at your own pace. Thank you for working through this lab session. Background information on the lab configuration This lab consists of 3 virtual machines, each functioning as a separate NetBackup domain, call LONDON, LASVEGAS and SYDNEY. All 3 VMs are Windows bit running NetBackup and LONDON also has OpsCenter installed. The machines are designed to boot logged in as Administrator. In the event the session gets locked out the Administartor password is symc4now. The machines are configured as master/media servers with MSDP storage and have local host files configured to allow communication between them. Each machine also has a LIFECYCLE_PARAMETERS file configured to force duplication operations to occur withing 3 minutes of a backup completing and thus to prevent delays in the duplication process. The lab activities comprise a total of 5 exercises, each of which should complete within 10 minutes. Much of the set up of each exercise can be completed while the previous exercise is running to save time. Finally please note that the naming conventions proposed for backup policies and SLPs in the lab exercises are purely for guidance you can use any naming convention you choose provided the source and target SLP names match. 2 of 12
