1 Hyperoo 2.0 A (Very) Quick Start Download and install the Hyperoo 2.0 beta Hyperoo 2.0 is a client/server based application and as such requires that you install both the Hyperoo Client and Hyperoo Server components in order to perform a backup. You can install these both onto the same server. You should install the Hyperoo 2 Management Console along with the Hyperoo Client/Server components. You will need to restart your computer after installing the Hyperoo Client in order for it to be able to perform live backup on any files which are open prior to the installation. You can skip this step if you wish and simply close any re-open any files which are currently in use. In the case of Hyper-V this will involved stopping and starting the Virtual Machines that you wish to back up. If you do not wish to use the Live Backup feature, then you don't need to restart the server or any Virtual Machines. Activate Upon installing Hyperoo 2.0 you will need to activate the Hyperoo Client, you can do this by opening the Hyperoo 2 Management Console from the Windows start menu, then connecting to the Hyperoo Client on the target machine. Once connected you will be asked to activate, this will require that the server has a connection to the internet there is currently no manual activation option for the Hyperoo 2.0 beta. Once activation has completed you will be ready to use Hyperoo 2.0. Create a backup Array The first step in setting up a backup is to create a backup Array using the Hyperoo Server. The backup array specifies the location of the backup files and settings which relate to security and version retention. To create a new array, open the Hyperoo 2 Management Console and connect to the Hyperoo Server. You should see the following screen: Click on the Add Array button and complete the following dialog:

2 Hyperoo 2.0 backup arrays consist of two separate folders. The Array Folder is where backup files will be stored, and the Array Information Folder is where temporary files and version rollback files are kept. For IO performance reasons you may wish to locate the Hyperoo Array Information folder on a separate physical volume. If you are locating the array folders on a network share then you should enter the network credentials for the share. You cannot use mapped drives for an array. Click OK once you are done. You will see the following screen:

You have now created a backup array. Array Security You can configure an array to require a password and/or encrypted connection using the Network and Security tab. Versions and Deleted File Retention The Hyperoo Server can store version information for backup files and can also be configured to keep deleted or overwritten files for a period of time. For Live Backup, you can specify the period of time between creating new versions of files which are being streamed to the array in real time. For non-live backups, a new version of a file is created during each backup. See the Versions tab to configure version properties for an array. Array Status The Array Status tab shows any currently connected backups. Managing Files You can access files in the array from the Files tab. Click the Filter List button to perform a filtered search of the array. If there are files in the array they will be listed as shown:

4 You can access file information and functions by clicking on the it's spanner icon. This will open the Manage File dialog as shown: The Manage File dialog allows you to change properties relating to a file as well as access previous versions. You can also clear the Owner of a file which will allow the array to accept backups for this file from a different Hyperoo Client to the one from which the file originated. A Hyperoo Server array will allow files to be linked to only one Hyperoo Client. If another Hyperoo Client attempts to send data for a file which it does not own, the data will be rejected.

Create a Backup Task Open the Hyperoo 2 Management Console and connect to the Hyperoo Client. Once connected, click on the Add Task button and create a new backup task.

You should see a window similar to the one shown below: Click on the Add File and Add Folder buttons to select the files and folders that you would like to back up. The Hyperoo Remote File Browser window will open allowing you to select the files and folders on the server. You can use the Remote File Browser to navigate the file system on the server, or you can enter the file/folder paths directly into the Selected path: textbox. Click the Destination tab and specify the settings for the Hyperoo Server. You need to specify the correct

array name and any password or encryption settings. If you want to back up your files in real time click on the Live tab and tick the Enable Live Backup check box.

You can specify a maximum data spool limit, above which real time backup for files will be halted. Live Backup works by first performing a regular backup to synchronize the files on the Hyperoo Client and Hyperoo Server machines. After synchronizing is completed, any changes to the selected files and folders will be transmitted to the Hyperoo Server in real time.

You can set the Backup (or Synchronization) schedule by clicking on the Schedule tab. Select a start time and frequency for the backup and specify any Retry settings.

For Live Backup tasks, the schedule will only actually run if any files need to be synchronized. Any files which are currently being backed up in real time will not need to be synchronized. You can start a Backup or Synchronization manually by clicking on the Console tab. You can also view the status of regular and live backups. The Task Log will allow you to view the details and log files from previous backups.

8 Click on the Restore tab to transfer files from the Hyperoo Server back to the Hyperoo Client. Simply select the files and folders to be transferred, specify the restore path on the client and click Start Restore. Notifications Hyperoo can send s when a backup completes and can also be configured to alert you when errors are logged within the applications' Activity Log. To enable notifications click on the NOTIFICATION on the left menu and enter your settings. A sample configuration is shown below:
