Installation will be carried out by us and we show your personnel how easy it is to use the system. We offer secure, encrypted protection of your data, leaving you with peace of mind. 2.1 Architecture SALT s Online Backup Service offers two choices transmitting your data regularly to our backup servers / storage areas: For bigger data volumes and speed reasons we recommend using dedicated communications links which can be based on a MetroEthernet, DIGICON, Wireless or VPN link. You can choose to rent such a link from SALT under our Wide Area Network (WAN) Managed Service or from your preferred WAN service provider. For smaller data volumes we offer our customers to backup their data via the Internet between 20:00 at night and 06:00 in the morning. It is absolutely safe to backup your data via the Internet. Our solution is military level encrypted (128bit), employed by most multi-national banks that require a high level of security, and compressed before being uploaded and stored on SALTs Online Backup Servers. Encryption and decryption is only carried out on the customer s machine(s) with a password provided by you, which will not be transmitted during uploading and downloading. Therefore, nobody, NOT EVEN US, can read your files. Speed guarantees, due to the nature of the Internet, cannot be provided by SALT and therefore no guaranteed backup windows are offered. The backup agent can be configured to backup your data daily, weekly, monthly, yearly and even at multiple schedules. The data encryption can be configured on the agent and by your personnel to use TwoFish, Triple DES and AES mechanisms. Microsoft Exchange is one of the most popular servers used by businesses of any size. The risks which people take with data on computer systems are scary, not only in Namibia, but all over the world. SALT will minimize that risk at much less cost than if the customer were to do it by themselves, and we guarantee excellent availability at the same time. Our model is widely practiced in industrialized countries and, except for those who have been receiving service from us for more than 6 years by now, is still a new concept to many in Namibia. Systems operating from our data centre are guaranteed to be up 24/7 (in excess of 99.8% of all time). All data residing on our platforms is backed up on replicated hard disks, and tape, which is stored off site. We back up essential services at a disaster recovery site belonging to Telecom Namibia. Anti Virus, Spam protection and other security issues are dealt with to international data centre standards, the likes of which most Namibian companies cannot afford. We have redundancy at most single points of failure e.g. we have for instance internet access from a second independent raw internet provider. Our systems are monitored and maintained 24/7, especially since we have customers with requirements beyond 8 to 5. We usually put in a line from us to our customer. This is the life line which makes our comprehensive service possible, because we can give the customer remote support.
