With this feature, the original file is required to be backed up once only, i.e. in the first backup job. Subsequently, only changes are necessary to be backed up. There are two types of In-File Delta that users can choose. Incremental Type All delta files are generated with respect to changes made since the last incremental backup. It means the last full backup file and ALL incremental delta backup files are required to restore the latest snapshot of a backup file. Differential Type All delta files are generated with respect to changes made since the last full backup file (i.e. differential backup). It means only the last full backup file and the last delta file are required to restore the latest snapshot of a backup file. Other intermediate delta files are only required if you want to restore other snapshots of a backup file.

6 Differential in-file delta backup has the benefits that a corrupted delta file would only make one particular version of a backup file non-recoverable and all other backups created by other delta files of the same file would still be intact. Windows System Backup and Restore For computers running either Microsoft Windows Vista Business / Enterprise / Ultimate Edition or Windows Server 2008, HOTSwap Backup Software is able to perform Windows System Backup and Restore. Open File Backup Both client-side backup applicants, HOTSwap Server Agent (HOTSwapSA) and HOTSwap Client Agent (HOTSwapCA), have integrated with Microsoft's latest Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) framework. It allows you to back up files that are being opened without any additional applications or plug-ins. VSS is only available on Windows XP / 2003 / Vista, and you must have administrative privileges to start the VSS service on a computer. Also, VSS will only work if at least one of your partitions is formatted using NTFS. 256-Bit Data Military Level Encryption All data will be compressed and encrypted with 256-bit encryption with an encrypting key selected by the user on the client-side applications, HOTSwap Server Agent (HOTSwapSA) and HOTSwap Client Agent (HOTSwapCA), before being uploaded and stored on HOTSwap Offsite Backup Server (HOTSwapBS). The encrypting key will NEVER be uploaded to HOTSwapBS during backup. In addition, it is also possible to back up your critical data using a secure SSL channel which will further increase the level of security. Since subsequent backup will be incremental backup (only new or updated files will be uploaded to the server) you should have no problems uploading your backup data afterwards. Command Line Tool HOTSwap Server Agent's (HOTSwapSA) client application of HOTSwap Backup Software is equipped with a command line tool, which allows users to run prebackup and post-backup commands. This feature is extremely useful for system administrators to back up an application or a database which HOTSwap does not have a dedicated module for it.

8 High Availability Architecture The high availability architecture of HOTSwap Offsite Backup Server (HOTSwapBS) is ideal for businesses that have a large number of client computers to back up concurrently. Specifically, multiple HOTSwapBS servers can be configured as a high availability cluster, so that when one HOTSwapBS is out of order, there are still other HOTSwapBS servers running, making the system still available for backup. With this configuration, all HOTSwapBS instances are essentially standalone except that they share the "user homes" via shared storage. A special distributed locking mechanism is added to control the update of these user homes to eliminate the occurrence that two different processes writing to the same user profile and thus corrupting it. In the event that an HOTSwapBS instance fails, HOTSwap Server Agent (HOTSwapSA) and HOTSwap Client Agent (HOTSwapCA) will automatically "fail over" the backups in progress to other HOTSwapBS instances. Therefore, this makes it possible for the complete backup system to achieve optimal resource utilization, throughput, and response time. High Scalability Architecture The HOTSwap Redirector (HOTSwapRDR) add-on component makes HOTSwap Backup Software become highly scalable. HOTSwapRDR works by redirecting connections to the corresponding server allowing your backup solution to support any number of users, distributed between any numbers of servers. Therefore, it allows you to easily scale your backup system, both up or down as your requirement changes. In addition, it also allows you to save initial investment on hardware, instead of purchasing a powerful server with a lot of headroom during startup; you can use a smaller server initially. Supports Windows Active Directory HOTSwap Backup Software supports Windows Active Directory (AD). This means that if an AD is present in the network, it is only required to create an user account once in AD and the same user account can also be used in HOTSwap Offsite Backup Server (HOTSwapBS), because HOTSwapBS will create this user account automatically after authenticating this logon using AD. This eliminates the need of manually creating backup accounts on HOTSwapBS by system administrators. When Windows Active Directory Authentication is enabled, user authentication will be dispatched to AD automatically if HOTSwap Offsite Backup Server (HOTSwapBS) fails to authenticate a user logon using its own records. This means that if an AD is present in the network, it is only required to create an user account once in AD and the same user account can also be used in HOTSwapBS, because HOTSwapBS will create this user account automatically after authenticating this logon using AD.

9 To further synchronize HOTSwapBS and AD, removal of users can be also configured. If you want to delete/disable HOTSwapBS user account when the user is removed from AD, you can also configure it in HOTSwapBS. You can have both options checked and create your own standard. For example, you can configure the settings in HOTSwapBS so that when the user account is removed from AD after 10 days, the user account will be disabled and after 10 more days, the user account will be deleted. Auto Software Upgrade under SAMC HOTSwap Offsite Backup Server (HOTSwapBS) comes with an auto-upgrade feature. When auto-upgrade is enabled on a HOTSwapBS, any HOTSwap Server Agent (HOTSwapSA) or HOTSwap Client Agent (HOTSwapCA) client-side applications connected to this HOTSwapBS will be upgraded automatically whenever the HOTSwapBS is upgraded to a new version as a part of SAMC.
