2 78 Val Verde County Data June 2003 Area Information Del Rio, the County Seat of Val Verde County, is located on US Highway 90 and US Highway 277. A throughway to Mexico s Ciudad Acuña, home to over seventy factories and a gateway to Saltillo and Monclova. Del Rio has a thriving and growing International Airport the Industrial Park. The Industrial Park is strategic location directly to the west of the Airport with many facilities to support commercial cargo. Our County Our County of Val Verde has a government based on a County Judge and four County Commissioners. Our City Our City Of Del Rio has a government based on a Mayor and Six City Council members. Recent Developments With current projects underway the City is aggressively seeking federal and state funding for projects to improve upon and extend the cities infrastructure. Projects include: Completed Terminal Building and Inspection facilities Extension of the current runway length from 5,000 feet to 6,300 feet Improvement of Quality of Life through Hike and Bike Trail around the San Felipe Creek Safe Routes to School Program Completed San Felipe Water Treatment Plant Continued Improvement on Mobility Impaired Transportation Program Demographics Education Total Population: 34,000 Ethnic Breakdown: White: 21.7% Hispanic: 74.6% Other: 3.7%
