4 VANCOUVER, WA OVERVIEW Vancouver is a thriving metropolis located just a few miles north of Portland, Oregon across the Columbia River. Vancouver is the largest suburb in the Portland-metro area with nearly 160,000 residents, and combined with the Portland- Metro area s 2.2 million residents it is among the top 25 metropolitan areas in the country. Some of the larger local employers include the PeaceHealth/SW Washington Medical Centers, WaferTech LLC, Fred Meyer, Clark College, and the Vancouver School District. Because of its affordability and convenience, 30% of Portland s workforce lives in Clark County and commutes to Portland. Additionally, downtown Vancouver is experiencing several revitalization projects to increase urban living options, green spaces, offices, and shops. A $1.3 billion mixed-use waterfront project is on track for the next few years and an additional I-5 bridge connecting Portland and Vancouver has been in the works for several years. The neighborhood is bounded by I-5 to the east, which provides access to Olympia and Seattle to the north, and to Portland to the south. The northern boundary is formed by Mill Plain Blvd., a primary east/west commercial arterial. The neighborhood is served by C-Tran, which provides bus service throughout Vancouver, as well as to Downtown Portland, East Portland, Battle Ground and Camas/Washougal.
