4 2011 Report to the Community 2011 was a year of growth for HealthONE as we enhanced and expanded healthcare services across our 10-state region. We invested in new technologies, quality care programs and facilities in the metro Denver area to better serve our patients. And, as one of the state s largest private employers, HealthONE was steadfast in its commitment to improving the health of our 9,000 employees. In August, we added a new program to encourage and reward those who improve their health and maintain healthier lifestyles. Among the most pressing issues in healthcare is the lack of specialists in rural areas, which forces patients to travel long distances for medical care. HealthONE Stroke Care grew our telemedicine network to 25 sites in Colorado and Wyoming in Telemedicine in rural and suburban hospital ERs enable patients to have immediate access via cameras and computers to a stroke neurologist, who can remotely diagnose a stroke with the local ER physician and begin treatment quickly. Not only are stroke patients often able to stay at their local hospital close to home but faster diagnosis and treatment improves recovery. HealthONE plans to double the number of telemedicine cameras across the region in 2012 as well as the types of specialists who will be available to rural areas, including physicians board-certified in pediatrics, cardiology, behavioral health and other specialties. In the metro area, HealthONE invested more than $110 million in facility improvements and new medical equipment. We began construction on a new freestanding Northeast ER at 128th St. and Holly (opening May 2012); we opened the new Breast Care at Red Rocks and the Red Rocks Cancer Center; operating room expansions were completed at North Suburban, Rose and Swedish Medical Centers; a new AirLife helicopter hangar opened at Sky Ridge Medical Center; an enhanced Bone Marrow Transplant unit at Presbyterian/St. Luke s Medical Center and an expanded Pediatric Intensive Care Unit opened at Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children at P/ SL. Additionally, HealthONE opened Red Rocks Surgery Center in Lakewood and added Ridgeview Endoscopy Center in Lone Tree to our System of Excellence. We hosted the first Rocky Mountain Regional Health Summit, a day of continuing education for rural physicians, nurses and hospital administrators. The Summit will be an annual event. To better serve physicians and patients across our multi-state region, we opened Access HealthONE a high-tech access and transfer center. Now with a single call, physicians can request a patient transfer or a medical consult with a specialist. Across the company, our employees and staff continued to show their commitment to our communities day-in and day-out, providing the highest quality, safe care to our patients and their families, and contributing to local organizations. Together our physicians, nurses and clinicians provided more than $103.7 million in costs for free REPORT TO THE COMMUNITY

5 HealthONE Board of GOVERNORS or discounted medical care to patients; we paid $75.6 million in state and local sales and property taxes and FICA; and we donated nearly $2 million to local nonprofit organizations supporting children, health programs, the arts, and other worthy causes. Additionally, HealthONE hospitals and facilities also spent or contributed $4 million for community health improvement services (such as in-kind donations of medicine, supplies and volunteers; free health seminars and education; nurse triage telephone service; car seat and bike helmet checks; and other free or below-cost programs). We invested more than $8.8 million in health professionals education and another $1.8 million toward research. Finally, we contributed almost $2.3 million in staff time and contributions for community building activities beyond our campuses. All told, 2011 saw the people of HealthONE contribute nearly $198 million in community benefit, up $8 million from Christine Benero, President & Chief Executive Officer Mile High United Way David Boyles, Chairman Columbine Capital Corp. and Collegiate Peaks Bank Jerome Buckley, MD forrest Cason, PhD, Chief Financial Officer Mental Health Center of Denver Greg D Argonne, Chief Financial Officer HCA-HealthONE and HCA Continental Division Jeffrey A.
