1 Board Election Candidate Statement Candidate for: Vice President Fran Reed Marymount University Associate Vice President of Enrollment Management Arlington, VA (703) Fran Reed Resume (PDF) The Leadership Cultivation & Elections Committee developed a set of questions for all candidates to answer, to lend some consistency across the candidate statements and to provide the voting membership with specific information about the priorities each candidate envisions pursuing if elected. 1. What are your top three priorities for the future of NAGAP? Support educational offerings that align with GEM. After a multi-layer research study to clarify GEM and best practices, it will be imperative that the VP encourages and supports the continued development of GEM educational offerings to our wide array of members. Ensure the 8 Key Focus Areas of NAGAP s Strategic Plan continue to move forward. Each action requires follow-up to make sure NAGAP keeps on track with its strategic planning initiatives. Expand NAGAP s outreach to additional markets. NAGAP needs to continue to identify new audiences that would benefit from a NAGAP membership. This would also include developing partnerships with other Associations and tapping into resources that may shared or enhanced. 2. How might you contribute to leading the association in the direction of these priorities? In order to support these priorities, the position requires someone with a keen understanding of NAGAP and the graduate enrollment field. I have been a member of NAGAP since 2002 and held various positions on committees and on the NAGAP Board. I was involved in NAGAP s last strategic planning session in 2012 as well as the move from being the National Association of Graduate Admissions Professionals to the Association for Graduate Enrollment Management. During my time with the NAGAP Board, I worked closely with the Executive Board to meet goals and support our strategic planning efforts by expanding our brand and looking for new ways to promote the organization. I also had the opportunity to Chair the 2011 Annual Conference in Washington, DC. This opportunity allowed me to get an inside look at not only the work that is involved with putting on a major conference, but to have the chance to shape the educational offerings. As an Associate Vice President of Enrollment Management at Marymount University, I worked collaboratively with schools and departments on campus to create a comprehensive enrollment action plan which I now oversee and manage. My knowledge and history with NAGAP as well as my expertise of the enrollment management field, provide me with the skills sets to help coordinate and support moving these priorities forward. I hope to have the opportunity to serve NAGAP once again and see this great organization continue to make progress and grow.

2 3. Please share a meaningful or memorable experience you've had with NAGAP - in a committee or on a project or in a networking moment. Being a member of NAGAP for the past 13 years has been a tremendous experience for me both personally and professionally. It was the first organization that I was able to do a presentation in-front of a large audience of my peers as well as the opportunity to share best practices. I have been fortunate enough to have worked with a tremendous group of individuals on committees and on the Board. My most memorable experience would have to be when I was the Chair of the 2011 Annual Conference. Prior to that, I had only presented at conferences and was part of the Marketing committee. The experience alone was amazing. By having the opportunity to help shape the conference, develop programming and ultimately work with a fantastic committee, had such an impact on me and the way I viewed the profession going forward. I will never forget that experience and what it taught me. Most importantly, it made me appreciate NAGAP that much more and what it does for its members and partner organizations. 4. 3 Francesca Reed Professional Experience Associate Vice President of Enrollment Management July 2013-present Provide leadership and coordination for the University s strategic enrollment management initiatives which include traditional, post-traditional and graduate students, working collaboratively with academic schools, Student Affairs, Athletics, Development and Alumni Relations and University Marketing. Coordinate the development and implementation of recruitment and marketing plans. Coordinate the development of promotional publications and advertising. Oversee long-range strategic planning and budget for enrollment offices. Serve as a member of the Provost s Academic Leadership Council. Work closely with the academic deans to ensure recruitment and student support activities are meeting student needs and programs are meeting market demands. Coordinate assessment activities for the Enrollment Management Division. Participates in off-campus recruitment and campus information sessions for both Undergraduate and Graduate programs. Oversee financial aid strategies. Supervise professional and support staff in Graduate Enrollment Services and supervises the Directors of Financial Aid, Undergraduate Admissions, and Enrollment Information Systems. Director of Graduate Admissions April 2004-present Marymount University Provide leadership and strategic direction for graduate enrollment management and coordinate recruitment and marketing strategies for graduate programs as well as selected degree completion programs at Marymount University. Promote the programs and educational opportunities available at Marymount to employers and other contacts. Work with the Office of Communications to develop and schedule promotional publications and advertising. Coordinate the review of application materials for admission. Develop creative recruitment programs designed to increase prospect and applicant bases. Participate in off-campus recruitment and on campus Information Sessions. Oversee long-range strategic planning and budget. Serve on various committees on campus including the University Assessment Committee and Student Development and Enrollment Management Assessment Committee. Serve as primary liaison with faculty and administration and other key Student Development and Enrollment Management offices. Coordinate Orientation programming for graduate students. Oversee professional and support staff across two campuses and assist with training and evaluation of staff. Assist with finding innovative approaches to fund graduate education. Coordinator, Graduate Admissions Marymount University Sept Serve as primary liaison for the Office of Graduate Admissions with the Malek School of Health Professions, Department of Interior Design and Psychology programs.

4 Interview and counsel prospective students, manage application file completion and file review for graduate applicants. Participate in the development and implementation of an effective marketing/recruitment plan. Participate in all admissions programs, employer calls, presentations to groups and individuals, employer/graduate fairs, as well as participating in panel discussions at area Universities. Develop Graduate Admissions open house events and other special programs to promote graduate education and increase prospect pool. Maintain Graduate Admissions website and coordinate virtual open houses. Work with Communications Office on the production of publication materials, ad placement and web page development. Assistant to the Director of Summer Sessions The Catholic University of America Nov August 2001 Assist Director on all administrative matters of the Office of Summer Sessions. This includes, advising all university staff, administration, faculty, high school, undergraduate and graduate students on summer courses, procedures and matters. Other responsibilities include: Recruitment, processing applications and registration. Develop marketing campaigns for the Office of Summer Sessions. Assist with the catalog and production of publications. Attend recruiting fairs and compile mailing lists. Update the Summer Sessions Web page. Process requisitions and prepare budget reports. Oversaw weekly lessons plans, supervised assistant staff, volunteers and substitutes, and maintained communication with families and staff.
