2 About Us As a service group of UnitingCare.ACT, UnitingCare Ageing is responsible for the Uniting Church s ministry for older people, particularly those who are disadvantaged, vulnerable and isolated. With more than 14,000 people in our care, UnitingCare Ageing is the single largest provider of aged care services in New South Wales and the ACT. We seek to provide positive lifestyle choices for older people that result in enriching and fulfilling lives. 3 Eligibility The eligibility and selection criteria for a Registered Nurse position on the UnitingCare Ageing New Graduate Nurse programme is as follows: Completion of your nursing degree between 1 June 2014 and 31 December 2014 Eligible for registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia prior to 31 December 2014 Be an Australian Citizen or hold a visa that allows ongoing full-time employment in Australia Available for employment on a FTE contract Employer sponsorship is not available from UnitingCare Ageing for this recruitment process. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are encouraged to apply. UnitingCare Ageing and UnitingCare.ACT offer a supportive and friendly team environment. 4 The Application Process What to Expect Applications for the UnitingCare Ageing 2015 New Graduate Nurse Program will open at 10am on Monday 2 June. The following guidelines will assist you to prepare for the recruitment and selection process and help you submit an application that meets our requirements. All applicants for our UnitingCare Ageing 2015 New Graduate Nurse Programme must apply via erecruit ; our online application system. The online application process will require you to provide the following information when you apply: Personal Details Name Address Phone Numbers You will also be asked to create a password for your account Checks Work Rights Status including Passport and Visa details if you are not an Australian Citizen Criminal History Consent to check Health Consent to check Driver s Licence Education History Secondary School Level achieved Tertiary qualification details Employment History Details of your previous employment Connections with UnitingCare Reason you want to work with UnitingCare Availability Availability details References Referee details Note: No approach will be made to your referees without your permission Equity and Diversity Details These questions are used for statistical and reporting purposes only and will not be used in the assessment of your application for this position You can elect to not provide these details Resume Upload your resume Cover Letter Upload your cover letter Declaration Confirm that all information provided is true and correct Your information is recorded in accordance with Commonwealth Privacy laws. 5 The Application Process How to Prepare As an organisation, UnitingCare Ageing is continually striving to develop innovative aged care services by seeking knowledge, responding to and meeting community expectations. Your resume and cover letter will need to articulate how your knowledge, skills and professional attitude will contribute to the best possible care for the people we serve. Resume and Cover Letter Preparation for the application process should include the development of a strong resume and cover letter. You will need to think carefully about the traits and abilities that will make you an asset to UnitingCare Ageing. You might like to consider particular knowledge or skills that you have gained through recent volunteer or employment experiences. Referees You should also prepare by selecting two suitable referees and ensuring that you are able to provide their contact details during the application process. Referee 1 - must be a clinical referee (for example a clinical facilitator, NUM, CNC, CNS or University Lecturer) Referee 2 a clinical referee (preferred) or character referee The Interview Process What to Expect at the Interview Applicants who are shortlisted for interview will be offered a date and time for interview via . The purpose of the interview is to provide you with the opportunity to expand on the information you provided in your application and to enable the interviewers to gather further information about your suitability for employment as a Registered Nurse. The interview process will ensure that all applicants are provided the same opportunity to demonstrate their ability in terms of job accountabilities and selection criteria. You will also be provided with the opportunity to ask questions about the position and/or organisation. You can expect that interviews will last a whole day and take place at assessment centres across a range of locations. The interview day will consist of a number of activities including: Participation in group activities with other candidates An opportunity to demonstrate knowledge, skills and professionalism in relation to a client care scenario A structured interview format At the Interview, you have a right to expect: To feel welcomed and given the opportunity to ask questions. To be asked questions specific to the job requirements and our values, so that an objective assessment can be made with regards to your suitability for the role, personal attributes and also how your skills and background compare with those of other candidates. Your confidentiality and privacy is respected. The selection techniques and processes applied are behaviourally based, seeking to be fair and reasonable at all times, and are designed to confirm specific knowledge and skills required for the role. Specific employment requirements, and other terms and conditions to be clearly explained to you. What to Expect after the Interview If you are nominated by the interview panel as meeting the requirements of the position, we will progress you to the next stage. This will involve conducting a number of checks to confirm your suitability and eligibility for employment with us. Reference Checking We will not conduct any reference checks without first obtaining your permission; this will be following interview. It is recommended that you notify your referees prior to a check being undertaken, brief details about the role you have applied for with us and that you have supplied us with their contact details for the purposes of completing the reference check. The Reference Check process is an opportunity for us to seek more information, additional to that already supplied, in order to make an objective decision about your suitability for the position. It is important that your nominated referees are able to discuss your suitability in relation to the position you have applied for. We will complete a minimum of two reference checks on each candidate.
6 Probity Checks In line with legislative requirements, we will request a Criminal Record Check. Under the Aged Care Act and in line with UnitingCare.ACT policy, we are required to complete a Federal Police Check. Work Rights Check We are required to confirm the eligibility to work in Australia for all potential employees prior to offering employment. You can provide confirmation of your right to work by providing Australian Citizenship documentation. Acceptable documentation includes: An Australian Birth Certificate An Australian Passport An Australian Citizenship Certificate Alternately proof of entitlement to work in Australia will be confirmed by using the Visa Entitlement Verification Online service provided by the immigration department using the information you have provided during the application process. Functional Assessment / Pre-Employment Medical A satisfactory Functional Assessment or a Pre-Employment medical is required prior to offering employment. You will be provided further information about this process as required. The Interview Process How to Prepare Applicants who are invited to attend an interview must accept the offer for interview by the specified date. Once an invitation to interview has been accepted applicants will be advised of additional information to bring to interview. This will include any verification of documents. Please be prepared to provide these, along with proof of your identity, at the time of interview. Outcome of Interview Process All applicants who attended an assessment centre for interview will be notified of the outcome on Wednesday 1 October If you are a Preferred Candidate you have a right to expect: To be contacted confidentially with an offer made to you personally. To be given the opportunity to ask questions and understand your pre-employment obligations. To be given the opportunity to ask questions at any point during the offer process so that you can make an informed decision. Your pre-employment processes (eg. Criminal Record Check, etc.) to be conducted in strict confidence. Your employment documentation to be sent promptly and reflect any conditions of employment previously discussed and agreed throughout the recruitment & selection process. To feel welcomed and valued throughout the entire recruitment process. Successful applicants will be offered a 12-month employment contract as a registered nurse subject to registration with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA). You will be required to provide your registration number for your employment to be confirmed. In addition to registration, all offers of employment will be subject to satisfactory reference checks, functional assessment/pre-employment medical and criminal record checks. It is recommended that successful applicants pre-register with NMBA in October. Your application for registration will not be completed until the NMBA have received the documentation that verifies you have passed your degree and this process can take several months.
