2 2 Design and present professional development workshop. developed and courses Editor of a national journal electronic database publishing through established academic publishers -- very large database published with quarterly annual cumulations since 1996-present Enrollment in professional program (Educational technology)... completed 1/2 program Executive and committee work on provincial and national archival associations 6-10 f Guest lectures to students in MLIS program 6-10 Handbook creation I've published 62 articles in major reference books from such publishers as Oxford Univ Press, the Univ of Toronto Press, and Routledge, as well as editing an international journal for six years (says he, immodestly). I have book publications and numerous journal publication not related to my work as a librarian. I have developed (or co-developed)and taught six continuing education courses for health sciences librarians and have offered them or have been invited to present them (sometimes in conjunction with an association meeting; sometimes as a stand-alone workshop on a CE day) on 15 different occasions. I have given public lectures on my area of research (6-10); selected films and written program notes for conference and public presentation (more than 20); developed conference programs for regional, national and international events (3-5); served as President for American and regional organizations (1-2); acted as a jury member/assessor for regional and national government bodies (3-5) Index - 1 Translation - 1 Vocabulary - 1 Influence of scholarship on the profession (e.g., citation impact of published article(s): Comment: The quality of any published research needs some measure of assessment. i.e., it is not sufficient to simply publish something; its impact on the profession (if any) needs a qualitative (not simply quantitative) measure. Invited presentations (non-conference): 2 lectures/classes in librarianship/archival studies at a university, workshops/lectures to professional associations, member of magazine editorial board, 1-2 member of television panel, 1-2
3 3 Listserv participation of a serious, scholarly nature. More than 20. Major translation of professional books : 1-2 Many library guides, print and web based. Curriculum for multi-week research instruction. Sessional instructor in MLIS program; sessional instructor in LLB program. N/A none None None numerous grant awards and involvements - 3 SSHRC awards, 2 CFI applications, 1 CFI award, CANARIE, Heritage, NBIF one article submitted for publication to peer-reviewed journal one encyclopedia chapter Open source software projects: 2 organized workshop for local and of the area staff for professional development Organizing conferences Giving professional development workshops Over 20 abstracts for a published literature review Over 20 abstracts for a national government web site Pannel moderator Participation à un cours à distance 1 Participation à la recherche documentaire pour un livre d'un professeur 1 participation in professional association activities such as volunteer at superconference participate in OLA strategic planning project monitor OCULA listserv and forward info to colleagues Participation on Masters Theses committees--2 Review of library collections at Colleges undertaking degree programs in Education--6 Particpant in 3 documentary films, several radio shows and tv programs, and a number of speeches at public events (not conferences) poems 1-2 présentations de type "conférence-midi" donnée dans mon millieu de travail : 2
4 4 Prepared and delivered workshops at conferences: I counted as part of presentations, but they could be a separate category since they involve even more work. I also wonder about workshops delivered as part of Continuing education/professional development for faculty at our university. Are they part of normal work expectations? Presentations within the University Community: 6-10 professional courses taught 3-5 MLIS courses taught 1-2 Public Lectures at other Universities (2) Question 31 specifically states 'as a university librarian'. Many academic librarians might well have scholarly research that pre-dates entering the profession. As a new librarian (just under 1 year out), I am forced to enter 'none' in many categories that otherwise would have been farther along the cline. Also missing from the above are translations (of which I have had 2 during my time as a librarian). I am also not clear as to whether 'webcasts' would be considered under the category of 'professional blogs, websites, etc.' or as 'Conference Presentations' Referee for journal researcher and subsequently participant in documentary film on a Canadian writer; film screened at FIFA in Montreal in March 2006 Sit on Library Advisory Board for academic journal publisher -- 2 years. Thesis committees - 4 professional society executive positions - 6 This questionnaire is understandably library-centric and I think does not fully reflect venues for scholarship that might be performed by librarians in other academic disciplines. I am certainly not an expert in the traditions of all the dsciplines but in my case - and I would not give this much weight - I have made 5 scholarly presentations (ranging from brief to extensive) on my academic work at CRACIN workshops and at the Faculty of Information Studies. In the library context, these would count for a bit. In the faculty context, these would also count for a tiny bit but would be seen as reports of work in progress that would eventually lead to publication. Unpublished scholarly work (translation) 1-2 Web bibliographies - 3 web site Work on an editorial committee (review of articles). Work on the creation of a Librarian Group in STLHE (Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education) to contribute as a profession to SoTL (Scholarship of Teaching and Learning) in Canada.
5 5 Working on two articles plus statistical research, but am not encouraged to do so. Even *discouraged*.
