1 Independent Search Engines: There are hundreds of independent scholarship search engines on the internet, some of them more reliable and legitimate than others. Students should not have to pay for a scholarship search or to apply for a scholarship, though they may have to "register"with an address. Here are a few reputable search engines. BlackExcel.org A great resource for underrepresented students (students of color, women, first generation college students) and a list of over 200 scholarships with a variety of opportunities. John ColiegeBoard.org/scholarships College Board (the same company that administers the PSAT, SAT, and AP tests) hasa great database that allows students to input details for a tailored search based on gender, location, interests, and affiliations. ColiegeScholarships.org ColiegeScholarships.org allows students to browse scholarships based on minority status, degree level, academic interest, geography, student type, or athletic ability. CollegeScholarship.org also has several scholarships they sponsor. Fastweb.com One of the largest and widely known scholarship search engines in the United States,FastWeboffers advice on how to apply for scholarships, complete the FASFA, and search for scholarships for all types of students. 4 Give Kids A Chance Scholarship Assistance for Underprivileged Children In order to apply for the Give Kids A Chance scholarship, the applicant must demonstrate the following criteria: - Florida resident. - Have a 2.5 average GPA or above. - Documented financial need: eligible students must have a family income of less than 60% of the median family income in the area in which they reside. - Demonstrate an interest in school and community activitites. - Two (2) letters of recommendation. Decisions will then be made concerning award recipients by May 30th of each year. 6 Career in a Year Scholarship : The application packet for this scholarship will go out to the counselors around Spring Break and will be due back to Lake Tech at the beginning of May. There will be two Career in a Year Scholarships awarded one for the north end high schools (Umatilla, Eustis, Mt. Dora, and Tavares) and one for the south end high schools (Leesburg, Lake Minneola, East Ridge, and South Lake). Recipients of this scholarship must meet the requirements listed below. The scholarship packets will be reviewed by the Lake Tech scholarship committee and they will select the two recipients. Graduating seniors who want to be considered for this scholarship must: o Get the Career in a Year Scholarship packet from their high school counselor in April o Complete the required documentation o Submit the scholarship packet to Lake Tech by the due date in May o The student must also enroll at Lake Tech during the school year

8 Ayo and Iken Children of Divorce Scholarship The Law Firm of Ayo and Iken, a Florida law firm helping people with divorce and custody issues recognizes parents who co-parent their children despite the hardships of a separated household. Parents that successfully prioritize the best interests of their children should be recognized. We would like the children of those parents to be a success in life and recognize the outstanding example of parenting shown by their mothers and fathers. The Law Firm of Ayo and Iken, would like to help Florida high school seniors who have lived in a divided household from which two parents strive to maintain respect for each other as an ongoing concern while caring for their children. 9 LAKE TECHNICAL COLLEGE CAREER IN A YEAR SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION FOR HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATES FROM LAKE COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS Two graduating seniors will be selected from the public high schools in Lake County to receive a scholarship covering the tuition cost of up to two semesters for career technical training at Lake Technical College. The scholarship is to be used on or before the start of the spring 2016 term. The application must be submitted to the LTC Admissions Office by May 8, Scholarship Criteria: 1. 13 SunTrust and LSSC Team Up to Award Scholarships The Lake-Sumter State College Foundation, Inc. recently received a $10,000 grant from the Gertrude C. Fawley Charitable Trust, managed by SunTrust to help award scholarships to students enrolled in the Baccalaureate in Organizational Management (BAS- OM) program. This new program which began in 2013, provides access to a baccalaureate degree that is affordable and available within Lake and Sumter counties. With the cost of tuition and books rising nationwide, the LSSC Foundation stands firm in its commitment to increase the number of scholarships provided to students. The Lake-Sumter State College Foundation, Inc. is a direct support organization for the college, awarding funds each year for student scholarships, program development, faculty opportunities, as well as facility and technology enhancements. In 2013, the Foundation awarded 628 scholarships to students attending LSSC totaling over $600,000. 16 The 2015 Aspiring Nurse Scholarship Nursing Schools Almanac is proud to announce our inaugural Aspiring Nurse Scholarship. We will award a $1,000 scholarship to an aspiring nurse who best demonstrates: A track record of academic excellence, particularly in science and mathematics A passion for the nursing profession and the overall field of healthcare Competition eligibility This scholarship competition is open to all US high school seniors who plan to pursue college education in nursing, including LPN / LVN, ADN, and BSN programs. 17 Astanza Q-Switched Laser Annual Scholarship Astanza is committed to supporting those who aspire to be the next generation of technology innovators and medical providers. The Astanza Q-Switched Laser Annual Scholarship is a merit-based scholarship awarded to students pursuing education in: Physics Biology Engineering Medicine Nursing Other natural or applied science fields The scholarship will only be awarded to students with a minimum GPA of 3.0 that are enrolling in an accredited college in the upcoming fall. The scholarship is a one-time award of $2,500 that may be used for tuition, books, and other education-related expenses. 18 Florida A & M University College of Agriculture & Food Sciences (CAFS) Biological and Agricultural Systems Engineering (BASE) Scholarship Purpose: This scholarship is to attract well qualified minority high school and transfer students to a Biological and Agricultural Systems Engineering (BASE) course of study at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU). Number of Scholarships: At least five (5) annually Value: Five thousand ($5,000) for in state students and a maximum of $10,000 for out of state students. The Scholarship can be used to help defray the cost of tuition, fees, and room and board. Criteria: High school recipients must have a grade point average (GPA) of 3.0. A SAT score of at least 1060 or an ACT score of 24 (verbal and math). For the $10,000 scholarship, the recipient must have a 3.5 GPA and a SAT score of at least 1160 or an ACT score of at least 27(verbal and math). Transfer students must have a cumulative 3.0 grade point average. All recipients must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.0, be enrolled in fifteen (15) hours of undergraduate courses per semester, and pass all courses attempted. Must be a US citizen. 19 Colleges Sports Recruiting Scholarship Sports is a more than wins and losses and while we are committed to helping athletes find opportunities to play sports at the college level, we believe the most important thing is getting a college education. As an organization we are proud to award a $1,000 scholarship to a college student who best represents a true leader in sports and life.
