Students in theatre arts/drama may transfer and pursue careers in acting, theatre lighting, costume design, set production, scenery design, scene painting, television production, theatre production management, stage management, teaching, and directing. Cabrillo offers options f degrees in Theatre Arts. The first option listed below is the Associate in Arts in Theatre Arts f Transfer (A.A.-T), which is intended f students who plan to transfer and complete a bachel's degree in a similar maj at a CSU campus. Students completing an A.A.-T/A.S.-T are guaranteed admission to the CSU system, but not to a particular campus maj. This degree may not be the best option f students intending to transfer to a particular CSU campus to a university college that is not part of the CSU System. See Associate Degree f Transfer infmation in the Cabrillo College Catalog. The following is required f all A.A.-T A.S.-T degrees: Completion of 60 CSU-transferable semester units. Minimum grade-point average (GPA) of at least 2.0 in all CSU-transferable coursewk. While a minimum of 2.0 is required f admission, some majs may require a higher GPA. Completion of a minimum of 18 semester units in the maj with a letter grade of "C" better, a "P" if the course is taken on a "Pass/No Pass" basis. Certified completion of the Califnia State University General Education- Breadth pattern (CSU GE Breadth) the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) pattern. 3 TA 10A Basic Acting Techniques Examines maj theies of acting within a framewk of lecture, exercises and scene wk; focus is on characterization, theatrical imagination, stage movement, and vocal projection. Exples at an intermediate level theies, techniques, and acting styles use in the preparation and perfmance of a theatrical role. Emphasizes deepening understanding of the acting process through character analysis. Materials fee may C-ID: THTR 152 TA 10C Advanced Acting Recommended Preparation: TA 10B; Eligibility f ENGL 100 and READ 100. Presents intensive script analysis, scene study (period and modern), and critiques using in-class rehearsals and perfmances of student selected scenes. Materials fee may TA 11 Voice and Diction f the Theatre Introduces the study and practice of using the voice effectively f drama. Breath, diction, articulation, emphasis, and interpretation will be covered. Will be taught through readings, perfmances, and improvisation and uses the phonetic alphabet, as well as acting techniques. Materials fee may TA 12A Movement f Acts Presents basic instruction in stage movement including dance, mime, stage combat, t'ai chi, creative movement, and contact scene study. Presents movement in relation to scene study, directial blocking, props, character analysis. Period styles, contact scenes. Materials fee may TA 13A Beginning Improvisation Covers the creation of nonscripted theatre through improvisational scenes and theatre games. Develops group consciousness and trust with ensemble building techniques. Materials fee may TA 13B Intermediate Improvisation Recommended Preparation: TA 13A; Eligibility f ENGL 100 and READ 100. Studies improvisation as both theatre training and a perfming art, including theatre games, styles, techniques f perfmance, motivation, and characterization. Materials fee may TA 14 The Art of Play Reading Studies theatre, film, radio, and television scripts in a variety of genres through reading, discussion, and interpretation. Materials will be drawn from contempary and histical texts in wldwide perspective. Emphasis on reading plays and scripts understanding their unique structure, character and auth voices, histical and societal context. May be offered in a Distance-Learning Fmat. Materials fee may TA 23 Introduction to Playwriting f Perfmance Introduces the elements of dramatic imagination by creating and perfming iginal plays which develop character, action, mood, plot, and rhythm. Prepares students f successful theatre auditions by expling: effective monologue selection, components of characterization, motivation, interview techniques, and methods of addressing cold readings and stage fright. TA 27 Theatre Production Wkshop 1-3 units; 3-9 hours Labaty Presents hands-on backstage preparation f the current TA 29 TA 75 stage production, including practical problem solving in scenery construction, lighting, props, costumes, make-up, sound, management, and public relations. C-ID: THTR 192 TA 28 Backstage Theatre 3 units; 2 hours Lecture, 2 hours Labaty Surveys all components of theater technology (stagecraft) in lighting, sound, scenery, painting, costumes, stage management, makeup and properties. C-ID: THTR 191 TA 30 Introduction to Stage Lighting 3 units; 2 hours Lecture, 3 hours Labaty Presents the study and execution of stage lighting with emphasis on equipment, control, col, and their relationship to design. TA 31 Introduction to Design in the Theatre 3 units; 2 hours Lecture, 3 hours Labaty Presents a wide explation of design f the theatre including projects in set, costume, lighting, and sound design. Materials fee may C-ID: THTR 174 TA 35 Scene Painting 3 units; 2 hours Lecture, 3 hours Labaty Presents basic scene painting techniques and materials, including illusionistic and faux painting methods, realization of col elevations, and painting furniture and props. Materials fee may TA 36 Introduction to Stage Management 3 units; 2 hours Lecture, 3 hours Labaty Exples stage management principles f theatre, dance, musical theatre, and concert productions, analyzing the dynamic role of the stage manager in the perfming arts management team.
