1 The College of New Jersey Support for Teacher Education Programs and Global Student Teaching To: From: Candidates Enrolled in Spring 2015 Field Courses (Prior to Student Teaching) in Programs of Professional Education Leading to Certification (Teacher, School Counselor, and Educational Leadership) Ms. Kerri Long, Certification Officer and The STEP Office Date: January 16, 2015 Re: Required Harassment, Intimidation and Bullying Prevention In January, of 2011, NJ Bill No was passed into N.J. State Law, revising the current law on Harassment, Intimidation and Bullying Prevention (HIB) which requires that all candidates for licensure/certification in the field of education entering the workforce in 2012 and after must receive HIB training before they receive N.J. certification. This is a mandatory requirement for both graduate and undergraduate students. If you are enrolled in a sophomore, junior or graduate field course, and have not already completed the training, you must successfully complete HIB training. Consequently, we have adopted a HIB Training program offered on-line by the New Jersey Foundation of Educational Administration, a non-profit organization, which offers staff development and training for principals, teachers and support staff throughout New Jersey. After you participate in each online training module, you will complete an on-line assessment to complete. When successfully completed you will be issued 2 certificates recognized by both TCNJ and school districts. Unfortunately, there is a charge for this on-line course; the total cost of approximately 3 hours of training is $ You can complete the training from the comfort of your residence and at times convenient for you. However, it must be successfully completed during the first two months of your field experience. After you participate in the on-line training, you will complete an assessment after each of the two components. When you pass the assessments you will receive a certificate for each component. You can complete the on-line assessment until you successfully pass it. Save the certificates in your professional folio; give a copy to your course instructor, if required. Elementary and Early Childhood majors are not required to enroll in this training, as they receive HIB training through the Department of Elementary and Early Childhood approved course. If you previously earned the HIB Certificates, you need not complete this training again. However, it must be successfully completed before applying for NJ Certification through the TCNJ Certification Office. SUBMIT THE CERTIFICATES TO THE TCNJ CERTIFICATION OFFICE WHEN YOU PREPARE FOR GRADUATION AND CERTIFICATION. The fee only covers the cost of the service. TCNJ receives no remuneration from the Foundation of Educational Administration. On your resume, it may be helpful for you to add completed HIB training courses and indicate the date you completed the training. Please register and participate in your training online as soon as possible. Purchasing the LEGAL ONE NJ HIB Bundle-ONLINE Courses: To purchase the NJ HIB Bundle-ONLINE course simply go directly to the URL link: Once on this page, simply click the Add to Cart button (as shown in the screen shot below).

3 Next, given benefits of our institutional relationship with LEGAL ONE, all of our students are entitled to a $20 discount for the NJ HIB Bundle-ONLINE ($10 disc./course). To receive this discount, simply enter our institutional Coupon Code TCNJ2013 (or, TCNJ2012 ); either of these remain to be active TCNJ coupon codes). Verify that your discount has been applied and, then, click the Checkout button. See screen shot below. This will take you to the Checkout page where you will enter all necessary information to process your order. IMPORTANT you must enter a valid and functional address under Customer Information. Then, complete the necessary payment information and click the Review order button located in the bottom right corner of the page. See screen shot below.

4 Finally, review all information present on the Review order table. Once you confirm all information is accurate, simply click on the Submit order button located on the bottom right corner of the table. See screen shot below.

5 Taking the NJ HIB Bundle-ONLINE Courses (Bullying 101 and NJ ABBoR) Once your LEGAL ONE course order has been processed, the appropriate course title link will automatically appear under the My Courses header located in the upper left vertical menu, as well as in the table presented under the My Courses horizontal menu link at top of page. See screen shot below.

6 Click the desired course title link. Then, click on the Take Course link (or tab) and follow the directions provided. Given that Bullying 101 for Educators is a Hazelden course, you will click on the Launch button located in the video frame to initiate the course. IMPORTANT! READ VERY CAREFULLY! Once you have viewed the course in its entirety, you will take the LEGAL ONE-specific assessment. DO NOT take the assessment in the actual video, as it WILL NOT COUNT. See screen shot below. Finally, once you successfully complete the assessment (passing rate of 70%) of each course, you can print your Certificate by simply clicking on the course Certificate link. This will generate a PDF version of the certificate that you can save and/or print. CONGRATULATIONS! We do hope you find your LEGAL ONE learning experience enjoyable and professionally satisfying. p.4
