He joined Qatar university in 2008 as a Teaching Assistant of Information Technology at the Foundation Program. He is a Certified Microsoft Trainer. Liang received his Bachelor degree from Universiti Utara Malaysia. Session Description: This workshop shows strategies for using ipads in classrooms so faculty can learn new and innovative methods for using technology to enhance teaching and learning. Prior to joining QU in 2011, Dr. Shankar was working as an Instructor in the Dept. of Physiology & Biophysics, University of Mississippi Medical Center, Jackson, USA. Dr. Shankar received his PhD in Pharmacology from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, Little Rock, USA in 2008 Session Description: is a free website providing learning tools for students, including flashcards, study and game modes. Collected data show how students benefit from using this tool to diagnose their areas of difficulty as well as remediate themselves and give them several tools that can help them to be independent learners. He worked as a Telecommunications Engineer for several years in Australia before joining Qatar University in 2006 as a Lecturer in the Foundation Program till Hamud is currently a team member of the CAS Educational Technology Center. Session Description: Google Docs is a freeware web-based office suite offered by Google. It allows users to create and edit documents online while collaborating in real-time with other users. Google Docs suite includes Documents, Spreadsheets, Presentation, Forms and Drawing online applications. The objective of the workshop it to allow the participants to collaborate on a short project using Google Docs online Document program. Workshop: Personalized Learning Projects Using Web 2.0 Technologies Facilitators: Mr. Ismael Fayed (FP) Ismail Fayed is the E-Learning Facilitator and English Lecturer in the Foundation English Program at QU. He is currently conducting his PhD research on Mobile Learning. He obtained his MA in Educational Technology and TESOL from the University of Manchester and post-graduate diplomas from Ain Shams and Mansoura Universities. With a vivid interest in educational technology, he has worked in several educational technology research projects including elearning, Web 2.0, media production and most recently m-learning. Session Description: Cloud computing and Web 2.0 are global digital gifts for educators and teachers today. With the introduction of smartphones and other tablet devices, tomorrow s technology and learning seem to go more personalized than ever. In this workshop, the participants are going to learn about using Web 2.0 free technologies in their teaching to emphasize learning autonomy, creativity and criticalthinking. Participants are going to use several platforms including voice-recording, visual stories and comics, and social networks. Follow up discussions and further development of this initiative will be proposed to participants. Workshop: LaTeX - Writing Professional Scientific Documents Facilitators: Dr. Tamer Elsayed and Ms. Maram Hasanain (CENG) Dr. Tamer Elsayed is an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at the College of Engineering, QU. He received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Computer Science from Alexandria University in Egypt in 1997 and 2001, and M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science from the University of Maryland, College Park (UMD) in the US in 2005 and His main research interest lies in information retrieval with an emphasis on largescale text analysis.
