5 The university is now carving its path in economically important areas of research. This campus has grown both in size and quality of education. I have watched with deep interest the progress of the University of Lahore, since its inception in the year 999. From a recent review of various departments of the University, I am encouraged to see that the quality of education has been sustained by our young ad experienced faculty. In the changing scenario of instructional technology, the constructivist theory of learning has become the mainstay of the teaching-learning process. Contrary to this, for a large number of years the students have been treated as passive learners. The integration of tools of technology with education has created a different circumstance in which the learner is an active participant and is thus able to use his creative abilities for problem solving. I am pleased to know that on a fully networked campus, the teachers are making best use of this learning methodology. I believe that if this practice is sustained, then, the University will be able to add substantial value to the training of students in accordance with market needs. The university is now carving its path in economically important areas of research, especially in the field of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology. The initiation of Post-Doctorate programs in this subject is likely to play an important role in the development of specialized human resource in a prospective economic field. Whereas our teachers are fully involved in the training of students, yet I find a lot of room for further improvement in student-teacher interaction inside and outside the classroom. Qazi Vice Chancellor The roots of the University of Lahore are embedded in its Islamabad Campus where it was founded in 998.After the establishment of Lahore Campus, which now is the main Campus, and grant of Charter as University in 00, the embryo of a multi- disciplinary University has come to fruition. In pursuit of academic excellence, the University developed its core values at Islamabad Campus. The purpose- built Campus of Islamabad has since grown both in size and stature at a steady and healthy pace. Supported by competent and experienced faculty as well as the required infrastructure, at this Campus the students are getting good education at an affordable cost. As the time passes, we will continue to build and expand the physical infrastructure as well as the academic strength. In pace with the addition of new infrastructure and under a well-defined road map, new disciplines are being gradually added. Last year, on completion of new academic block and laboratories, fresh programs of BS in Mechanical Engineering, Doctor of Physical therapy (DPT) and Doctor of Dietetics and nutritional Sciences (DDNS) were successfully launched. This year new program of Doctor of Medical Lab Sciences (DMLS), which has already matured at Lahore Campus, shall be opened for admissions in the Fall Semester. 10 HISTORY The University of Lahore is the largest private sector university in Pakistan, with more than,000 students and 7 campuses. The University was established in 999 and has since then been offering courses in the fields of Medicine & Dentistry, Engineering, Arts and Social Sciences. With strong emphasis on balanced progress and focus on human capital The University has grown to faculties and departments. The quality of teaching facility and research excellence has also granted international recognition placing the University amongst the first Pakistani University to be ranked in the QS Ranking, and in 0 ranked among the top Universities from Pakistan in QS Asia Ranking. The Higher Education Commission (HEC) recognizes the University of Lahore at its highest W category of Universities reserved for those institutions that fulfill all criterion of an International Quality University. With the new facilities for computer sciences and the up-coming engineering facilities at Lahore, the University will invest in providing the best teaching and learning environment in Pakistan. The Teaching Hospital at the campus shall also add to the value of the Medical programs. The University has also invested in the School of Creative Arts (SOCA), where students are now engaged in the activities of the Media Group housed within the facilities of the School, therefore giving them the experience of newspaper, television and film. SOCA is the only facility in Pakistan with two commercial studios, latest in cinematic and television equipment and a sound studio delivering commercial film sound production. COMMERCIALIZATION AND ENTERPRISE We believe in teaching through practice and therefore the university has already invested heavily in SOCA. Additionally there is a gaming and animation house at the university delivering the needs of commercial consumers across the world. The University intends to further invest in a medical park and an IT house in order to gauge the commercial application into teaching and learning for students. 7

11 CAMPUSES LAHORE The University s Main Campus on Defence Road is built near the prime Defence Road area just off Raiwind Road and consists of a purpose built facility spanning 00 Acres which houses the University College of Medicine & Dentistry, Pharmacy department, Lahore Business School, Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, Bio-chemistry, Environmental Science, Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, Nursing School, Law Department and School of Creative Arts. The facility features a lush park with fountains and flower gardens and an inner courtyard, which provides ample space for students to rest and recuperate. Additional facilities include a four floor student center, a purpose built library, on premises hostels with concierge and laundry and spacious auditoriums. The premises also encompasses two technology parks, the Agritechnology park and the biotechnology (CRIMM) is also based here. The Development of a Mosque and a comprehensive sports complex are currently underway. The Campus on Raiwind Road spans Acres & 7 Kannals and houses the Engineering, technology and computer science, University College of Dentistry, Mathematics Department and English Literature & Language. The facility features a comprehensive library, a spacious cafeteria and fully equipped laboratories and IT infrastructure. The City Campus houses the school of Accountancy and Finance and is based in the posh Gulberg Area. ISLAMABAD Islamabad Campus which was established in 998 is the mother campus of The University Lahore (UOL) and is being served by a fully developed infra-structure for Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Sciences, Pharmacy, Management Sciences and Allied Health Sciences. Dedicated and competent faculty delivers the curriculum, both for technical and professional disciplines. To achieve the vision, UOL has created its new educational faculty called New Campus (Sihala). New Campus has purpose-built class rooms and laboratories for all disciplines of Engineering, Pharmacy, Physical Therapy and Medical Laboratory Sciences. At the Campus site, Hostel for 00 students, Gymnasium and Cafeteria is under construction. 8 9

12 STUDENTS SERVICES LABORATORIES For Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Pharmacy, Physical Therapy and Dietetic and nutritional Sciences full equipped laboratories are built at the new Campus. These Labs are served by trained professional LIBRARY Professional library staff is managing the libraries. The libraries contain more than 0,000 books covering all disciplines. In addition, the libraries are maintaining book banks for use of the students on all subjects being covered by the university. In addition an access to HEC Digital Library is also available at both the Campuses TRANSPORT Islamabad Campus is maintaining a large fleet of modern buses to provide pick & drop facility, to student and those faculty members who are not maintaining their personal transport. The transport facility is also provided to hostel residents. A micro-bus/coaster was also purchased for the faculty members. Transport between the campuses is available to the students as a regular feature. 0 HOSTEL FACILITY Boarding and lodging facility for both the campuses is available at the hostels managed and administered by the University at Islamabad. Meanwhile, a new Hostel for 00 students is under construction at the new Campus IT SERVICES State of the art IT Labs with free Internet service are available to the faculty and students at both Campuses. OFFICE OF STUDENT AFFAIRS The Office of Student Affairs, a department in Islamabad Campus is a central provider of resources and experiences designed to supplement students' classroom learning and to contribute significantly to their personal development. Through our programs, advising resources and services, and various forms of advocacy, OSA support students in their growth as leaders and builders of a strong UOL community The Office of Student Affairs serves as a primary source of information and advice about co-curricular opportunities and resources. Staff members assist students in becoming involved in campus life, conduct leadership development programs, provide continuity for organizations from year to year, educate students about University policies, mediate disputes, advise event planners, and help students put classroom learning into practice through the techniques of experiential education..following are some of the activities managed under OSA at Campus. 13 INFRASTRUCTURE The Sargodha campus at Lahore Road, Sargodha is spread over 80 kanals of area. The facilities like library, classrooms, laboratories, canteen, Playgrounds, faculty offices have all been catered at the campus. We endeavor to provide all possible facilities to students and staff for Research and development in these fields of education. STUDENTS SERVICES LIBRARY We have state of art library having 5000 books on different subjects. Furthermore, we are adding about 5000 more books covering all the subjects being offered at our campus.t TRANSPORT The Sargodha Campus has an independent bus service to facilitate the Students from the Sargodha City and surroundings. HOSTEL FACILITY We have also hostel facility for male and female students and faculty also. IT SERVICES We have state of the art IT lab having latest IT equipment. 0mbps internet connection available at the campus. Furthermore, we are planning to add two more IT labs and 0mbps internet connection.
