2 Why? Workstations are the Achilles heel of networks. They don t receive the same attention or lock-down as servers. Users access questionable web-sites and open malware s. IntraLAN s help-desk now deals with more workstation issues than servers. NetCare Workstation is designed to dramatically improve the protection and management of your workstations. It combines a number of tools into a single cohesive package. NetCare Workstation is made up of three parts: 1. protection Pre-filtering Exchange store monitoring 2. Workstation management tools Monitoring Weekly reports Asset tracking Patch reports Take control 3. Workstation protection Anti-virus, anti-malware Microsoft Security Updates Reports

3 IntraLAN NetCare Workstation 1. protection Traditional arrangements allow s and malware to be delivered directly to your Exchange server where a single anti-virus package attempts to filter out what it can. Spam (and hence malware) can also be delivered direct to your Exchange servers IP address. A traditional set up for protection Signature files are only updated daily (software package dependent). Unsurprisingly, malware gets through. Pre-filtering NetCare Workstation redirects your to a series of 4 anti-spam and anti-virus pre-filters before they reach your Exchange server. Exchange store monitoring We also maintain Kasperski on the Exchange server itself. NetCare Workstation Each user receives a report up to 3 times a day showing all quarantined . If they feel they are missing an expected , they can query the quarantine file at any time. Further, your Exchange server will only accept from the filter array so malware can no longer be delivered direct to it. These filters are updated real time as live spam patterns are established. New virus signature files are updated real time. As an added benefit, in the event your Exchange server/ office/internet line is down, users can log into the array to see what urgent new messages are waiting to be delivered, including the ability to reply and forward.

Workstation management tools NetCare Workstation also includes a number of very useful management tools, including: M onitoring IAMS lists all the workstations, who s logged in where and if there are any problems (e.g. running out of disk space). eekly reports W Your weekly server report will now also include a further section with a summary of your workstation status plus detailed breakdown. A sset tracking Lists all your workstations + their specification for quick and simple audit. Lists all the software installed on each workstation for license checks. 5 IntraLAN NetCare Workstation P atch reports Lists all the patches installed and missing (Microsoft, Adobe, Java etc) and whether they re Critical. 6 3. Workstation protection Anti-virus, anti-malware Traditionally, if a virus is detected on a workstation, the user gets a pop-up message and it s logged to the package s local console. If a workstation stops taking updates (common, especially remote devices), it s reported to the local console. A traditional set up for anti-virus protection If you have the skills or NetCare ProActive, then perhaps they re checked (time and priorities allowing). Our experience is they re simply not. In short, each network has its own isolated system which cannot be centrally monitored. Microsoft Security Updates Microsoft regularly releases various types of patches: bugfixes, functional improvements or the more critical Security Updates. The latter are security holes that have been identified by Microsoft and are critical for protecting your workstations they should be applied urgently. NetCare Workstation includes the application and management of all Microsoft Security Updates. NetCare Workstation monitors each workstation, directly updating the IAMS central monitor dashboard, including home PCs and/or laptops not always on your LAN. Most importantly, IAMS alerts us within 15 minutes of a virus/malware being detected. NetCare Workstation The net result is any virus infected files, threat (e.g. browser add-on) or malware (e.g. peering tools) are automatically and instantly quarantined and deleted after 48 hours. If the user needs that file back, they have to have it unlocked through the IAMS dashboard (we will do for you on request). In short, NetCare Workstation ensures the tools for protecting your network from viruses and malware are in place and fully operational.

7 IntraLAN NetCare Workstation Reports You can request summary of all quarantined and threat items on your network at any time. Summary NetCare Workstation is a carefully designed, integrated package presented through a single convenient dashboard (IAMS). It s a powerful extension to the server monitoring facilities, ultimately providing an increase in user and IT support productivity. NetCare Workstation includes the management, monitoring and fault-fixing of the pre-filters, anti-virus/malware packages and successful installation of Microsoft Security Updates. Subsequent problems can then be dealt by you or it provides our engineers with a concise summary of what needs to be dealt with whenever on site.
