2 Access Road Mountain Empire Community College - Big Stone Gap, VA Firm s Responsibility: Base Mapping, Environmental Review, Cost Estimate, Roadway Design Mountain Empire Community College 3441 Mountain Empire Rd Big Stone Gap, VA Construction Costs: $992,000 Founded in 1971, Mountain Empire Community College serves the communities of Lee, Scott, Wise, and Dickenson Counties in addition to the Cities of Wise and Norton. As the course offerings and student life continued to flourish at the college, staff realized that a second campus access point was needed not only for circulation purposes, but to improve safety procedures. Accidents have occurred close to the campus in recent years highlighting the need for secondary access to maintain student and staff safety. Anderson & Associates, Inc. provided preliminary engineering and Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) coordination for a new service entrance for the campus on to Route 23. A&A also provided base mapping, a preliminary cost estimate, and environmental review coordination.

3 William F. Snyder Auditorium Wytheville Community College - Wytheville, VA Firm s Responsibility: Site Design, Surveying Wytheville Community College 1000 E. Main Street Wytheville, VA Mr. James Flynn (276) Architect: RRMM Anderson & Associates, Inc. provided professional engineering and surveying services to Wytheville Community College as a sub to Rodriguez Ripley Maddux Motley. The college had a number of courses that were being taught in regular classrooms or a large multi-purpose space, which were better suited for an auditorium setting. In addition, the college s active theater program had no space designed to meet the instructional needs of the students and faculty. A&A provided engineering design services and a cost estimate for this auditorium addition to Smyth Hall. In addition, A&A provided a topographic survey of the subject area and adjacent roadways to produce a 2-foot contour map. Two benchmarks were set within the surveyed area, and all mapping was prepared of the Virginia State Plane Coordinate Datum and compatible with the Town of Wytheville s mapping.

4 Learning Resource Center Southwest Virginia Community College-Richlands, VA Firm s Responsibility: Surveying, Site Design, FIre Flow Testing, Environmental Impact Review Southwest Virginia Community College 369 College Road RIchlands, VA Mr. Richard Hudson (276) Architect: Lukmire Partnership, Inc. Southwest Virginia Community College (SwVCC) first opened in 1968 and contains approximately 100 acres of hills and valleys nestled at the base of the Clinch Mountains. As SwVCC grew to become a comprehensive institution offering more than 80 programs of study, more educational space was required. Anderson & Associates, Inc. provided professional engineering and surveying services for the new Learning Resources Center (LRC), the information and communication heart of campus. The mission of the LRC is to provide materials and technical support for all of the instructional programs at the College. To facilitate that mission, A&A provided topographic surveying, grading and erosion control design, stormwater management, fire flow testing of the existing water system, site utility (water/sanitary sewer) design, and sidewalk and parking layout. A&A also provided an environmental impact review and construction contract administration.

Format included scanning and vectorizing existing base mapping, updating as-built drawings, documenting and projecting utilities and parking, and planning locations for new facilities. Work on 11 campuses to date, including: Southside Virginia CC, John H. The A&A crews are working on an on-call basis to stakeout the storm sewer and sanitary sewer structures, water lines, building, sidewalks, plazas, curb & gutter, and edge of pavement. Anderson & Associates Middletown Regional Offi ce is located less than a mile from the Lord Fairfax Middletown, Virginia campus. 2009

7 Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center Virginia Highlands Community College - Abingdon, VA Firm s Responsibility: Site Civil Design Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center Rachel Fowlkes One Partnership Circle Abingdon, VA Total Project Cost: $1,500,000 Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center is located on the Virginia Highlands Community College Campus and provides classroom teaching, and conference space for ten Virginia Universities, including UVA, Virginia Tech, and ODU. A classroom expansion will provide more programming space for this high demand facility. A&A provided design of site layout and utilities, grading, stormwater management and erosion and sediment control services. A&A also prepared a rainwater harvest system design for irrigation uses on site. LEED certifi cation was achieved for this project.

Sargeant Reynolds Community College 1651 East Parham Road Richmond, VA Doug Terrell Architect MWC Architects 2008 Anderson & Associates, Inc. provided professional engineering services for site design that included sidewalk layout, grading, storm drainage, and sanitary & water services. JSRCC built a new learning center along an existing creek with a riparian protection zone along the adjacent creek. The site design accommodated development restrictions from the RPZ and included landscaping treatments to address impacts on the stream buffer from the building. Because the new building was placed on the roadway that connected the east and west parking lots, it became necessary to construct the North Connector Road before beginning building construction. A&A prepared a complete and separate set of road plans and assisted with construction contract administration for the road construction while continuing work on the building site plans.

Lancaster Community College PO Box 1000 Clifton Forge, VA Mr. Ed Kenny Fees: $3,200 Dabney S. Lancaster Community College (DSLCC) retained Anderson & Associates, Inc. to update the college s comprehensive master plan. The comprehensive master plan is a tool to guide DSLCC as it plans for the future needs of both its students and facilities. It includes a set of graphic plans, which refl ect the campus s current physical layout and planned improvements, and a master plan narrative, which describes the history, context, and existing and proposed programming and infrastructure updates at the college. Anderson & Associates, Inc. is experienced with the Virginia Community College System (VCCS) and the Virginia Capital Outlay Manuals standards for updating both the graphic plans and the narrative. A&A performed the previous two updates of DSLCC s comprehensive master plan, as well as master planning work and comprehensive plan updates for a number of other Virginia community colleges.
