AÇIKLAMA DİKKAT! ÇÖZÜMLERLE İLGİLİ AŞAĞIDA VERİLEN UYARILARI MUTLAKA OKUYUNUZ. 1. Sınavınız bittiğinde her sorunun çözümünü tek tek okuyunuz. 2. Kendi cevaplarınız ile doğru cevapları karşılaştırınız. 3. Yanlış cevapladığınız soruların çözümlerini dikkatle okuyunuz.
2015 ÖABT / İNG İNGİLİZCE ÖĞRETMENLİĞİ TG 8 1. The meaning of the sentence includes a negative semantic relation and thus the gap calls for a word with a negative meaning. Regression in option A has a negative meaning of tension. 4. Gradable antonyms are antonyms that can be graded where the antonyms can have other words in between the antonyms. In that sense, single and married in option E cannot be graded. All the others can be graded. Young-middle aged-old- very old, very early-early-late-very late, full-half fullhalf empty-empty, fat, plump etc. 7. In terms of collocation, the usage of distinguish is distinguish something from something. Thus, the second gap calls for the preposition from enabling us to eliminate options A, C and D. Option B can be eliminated due to Subject-Verb Agreement (helps distinguishes) leaving only option E to be the correct answer. 2. The word possess indicates that the word required here needs to be something that can be possessed. A job or job description would require certain skills. Sources, resources and rules are semantically incorrect. Quality in option B could have been incorrect if it was in plural form. 5. The branch of Linguistics that studies how speech sounds are produced and articulated is referred to as Phonetics given in option A. 8. The first part of the sentence has the phrase for over a century indicating the Present Perfect Tense. Moreover, the agent of the first sentence-gorillas- cannot do the action of keeping gorillas in zoos. Thus, a passive voice is required for the first gap. The second part of the sentence is about the present with a state verb. Passive present perfect in the first gap and present simple verb form in the second part is consistent with option D. 3. The definition of Semiotics is given in option B. The study of meaning is Semantics. The study of speech sounds is Phonology. The study of history of words is Etymology. The study of language structure is Morphology. 6. Alveo-palatal, affricative, voiceless sound is given in option B. Option A is velar, nasal, voiced. Option C is palatal, fricative, voiced. Option D is labiodental, fricative, voiceless. Option E is palatal, glide, voiced. 9. Only the word no in option B is linguistically correct. The others are linguistically incorrect since they don t collocate. 3
10. The two sentences contradict each other in the sense that first states intention of opening own business whereas the second part states getting a job, calling for a conjunction expressing contrast. This helps us eliminate options D and E. Despite in option A cannot be followed by a sentence and thus is linguistically incorrect. The second gap requires an infinitive verb form because it is after an object, enabling us to eliminate option B. 13. The word as after the word conditions requires such in the first gap because electrically charged clouds are given as examples to weather conditions. In terms of collocation, the correct usage is prevent the launch of something. 16. According to the text, the demand for Africans continues due to the need of labor in agriculture and this is given in option E. 11. The date given at the beginning of the sentence is a future date enabling us to eliminate option E. The date also requires a future form in the second gap and enables us to eliminate option C and D. In terms of collocation, the correct usage of the last gap is be dependent on which enables us to eliminate all the options other than A. 14. The passage talks about Africans being skilled laborers and experts in tropical agriculture and that this makes them a good candidate for working in plantation agriculture. 17. John s first sentence is a question and thus requires Mary to answer. This enables us to eliminate options A and E. Option C can be eliminated because it contradicts the following sentence. Option D can be eliminated because semantically, option D and the final sentence of the dialogue are saying the same things. 12. Linguistically speaking, the terms rate and extent are related to or belong to climate change requiring the preposition of. This helps us eliminate all the options other than C. Moreover, the first gap requires a gerund. 15. Option B can be eliminated because the passage has nothing about why Africans were turned into slaves. Options C and D are partially correct. Option E is incorrect in the sense that the passage has nothing about learning agriculture. 18. Nicky s final words indicate that Sally is unhappy for some reason. This information helps us eliminate options C, D and E. Option B is semantically incorrect since Sally has already received the highest score. 4
19. Option A can be eliminated because it was Sarah who first mentioned the 50 points and thus cannot be surprised afterwards. Option B is semantically incorrect since they don t know what to do and thus don t know what they need to study for. Option D is the same as option B in terms of semantics. Option E can be eliminated because Sarah has already mentioned that there is no information in the syllabus. 22. In terms of cohesion and coherence, each sentence needs to serve the previous or the following sentence. There needs to be a semantic link between each sentence within a paragraph. In that sense, the sentence before the gap is about the spacecraft and its speed. The sentence following the gap is about the load of the spacecraft. The sentence in between needs to be about the spacecraft or the things they are carrying. 25. They in sentence III is inconsistent with anything in the previous sentence because the agent of the previous sentence is gems and in this sense sentence III means that gems are doing this action on their own. In other words, sentence III is inappropriate in the sense that it should have been in the passive voice in order for it to be correct. 20. In the original sentence, Esperanto and Idiom Natural are both given as languages. This information enables us to eliminate options A and B. Option C contradicts little success. Option E doesn t talk about attempts. 23. Option B can be eliminated because the sentence following the gap doesn t talk about dispute among women. Option C can be eliminated because the topic of the passage is the results of the survey and not female movements. Moreover, option C and the sentence following the gap don t correlate in terms of singularity and plurality. The sentence before the gap gives a figure indicating the number of hours females spend on household chores. In terms of cohesion and coherence, the next sentence can provide a figure for males. 26. While all the definitions are correct, the definition given in option E represents climax not resolution. 21. In this sentence, range of plant life on a mountainside is the result, differences in temperature and precipitation is the reason, and varying altitudes is the reason of the differences in temperature. This is given in option B. 24. The sentence given in (V) starts with such stretches of time which is not represented in the previous sentence. In other words, the question of which stretches of time is left unanswered in the previous sentence. 27. The sentences given are from Jane Eyre given in option B. 5
28. While all the given writers are of the 20 th century, Charles Dickens in option E is a representative of the Victorian Age. 31. The matching in option A is correct. Option B is genre, option C is theme, option D is sonnet and option E is symbol. 33. The title of the first version of Pride and Prejudice was First Impressions given in option C. 29. While all the options are correct, the matching in option D is incorrect in the sense that the given example is an example of metaphor not imagery. 32. George Orwell s satire fable about Russia and Communism is Animal Farm given in option D. 34. The given are all principles of Humanistic Teaching except the statement in option E, which is a characteristic of Cooperative Learning. 30. All the given are well known writers of lyric poetry except Edgar Allen Poe who is a writer of narrative poetry. 6
35. The statement given in II is not related to Lexical Approach because the Lexical Approach didn t come out as an alternative to National Approach but came out as an alternative to Traditional Grammar Approach. 37. While all the given are characteristics of good teaching, the statement given in option A is not about good teaching but quite the opposite. 39. The given paragraph is the description of the Natural Order Hypothesis where learning follows a natural order, like that of a human s acquisition as of birth. 36. Reliability given in option E is not one of the principles of assessment criteria but is a criteria of a successful test. 38. While the given options are related to Achieving Approach, the statement given in option E is related to Surface Approach. 40. The given paragraph is describing a Process Syllabus given in option B. 7
41. Social interaction in second language acquisition is suggested by Bruner given in option D. 45. The given paragraph is the description of Structural Approach given in option A. 48. The given paragraph is the description of Piaget s Constructivist Theory. 42. All the options are about the advantages of language laboratories but the statement in option D is not an advantage and in that sense not very correct. 46. The matching in option C is correct. Option A is GTM. B is Silent Way. D is Audio Lingual Method and E is Direct Method. 49. Onomatopoeia is a word that phonetically imitates, resembles or suggests the source of the sound that it describes. In that sense, all the options include words that imitates the sound it describes other than shrink because the action of shrinking doesn t have such a sound. 43. The statement given in option A is a characteristic of young learners whereas the others are all characteristics of adult learners. 47. The given paragraph is the description of the Direct Method given in option A. 50. The statement given in option C is the definition of a Prognostic Test. The statement in option A is the definition of Selection Tests. Option B is the definition of Placement Tests. Option is the definition of Diagnostic Tests and option E is the definition of Achievement Tests. 44. All the options other than option D are correct. Social Development Theory is suggested by Vygotsky not Bruner. 8
