3 Child Development Associate (CDA) (9 credit hours) *Course schedule terms/offerings are subject to change The Child Development Associate (CDA) credential course of study provides the student with the necessary background information and support to develop the resource file and competencies necessary for passing the CDA assessment, done at the national level. At Chaminade University this is offered within an academic program that provides nine (9) credits of academic work. 4 Associate in Science Early Childhood Education (60 credit hours) *Course schedule terms/offerings are subject to change The Associate in Science degree requires the completion of a minimum of 60 semester hours of credit with a grade point ratio of at least 2.0 (C) for all work completed at Chaminade. The degree also requires the completion of the general education core. At least 15 semester hours of course work and 12 semester hours in the area of emphasis must be completed at Chaminade. PSY 101, General Psychology, is a general education requirement. Demonstrated computer proficiency is required. 6 Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education (120 credit hours) *Course schedule terms/offerings are subject to change The Bachelor of Science degree requires the completion of a minimum of 120 semester hours of credit comprised of a general education core, the pre-major, the major and electives. At least 45 credit hours must be upper division. A grade point ratio of at least 2.0 (C) is required for all course work. At least 30 credit hours residence is required. At least one half the upper division courses required for the major must be completed at Chaminade. PSY 101, General Psychology, is a general education requirement. Demonstrated computer proficiency is required. The early childhood degree program prepares students interested in working with young children ages 2 1/2 through 6 in preschools, private schools, and other educational environments. Upon declaration of major students must complete a pre-admittance interview. The Early Childhood Education major meets NAEYC accreditation standards, and Hawaii state registry requirements for ECE. The Early Childhood Education major is not accredited by the Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education (MACTS) and is without licensure. Please see following pages for the details of courses need to complete your Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education. General Education Requirements for All Baccalaureate Degrees Bachelor of Science (B.S.) The Bachelor of Science degree requires the completion of a general education core as well as a major field of concentration. Some of the Bachelor of Science degree programs also require the completion of area core courses related to the major. The degree requires the completion of a minimum of 120 semester hours of credit. At least nine of the 45 semester hours of upper division credits required for the degree must be in disciplines outside the major field of concentration. An average grade of 2.0 (C) or better must be earned for all courses completed at Chaminade. An average grade of 2.0 (C) or better is also required in the major. One year of residence is required. At least half of the upper division credits required for the major must be completed at Chaminade. 10 Adult Evening and Online Programs Academic Calendar Adult Evening and Online Programs (AEOP) courses are ten week sessions in Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer terms. The courses are offered online, on-ground, and as a hybrid delivery system to meet your need. The following table shows general starting and ending month for each term. Generally, lower division course ( level) costs less than upper division course ( level) and there is a technology fee per credit if you choose online or hybrid courses.
