1 INFORMACIÓN FUENTES EXCEPTUADAS PARA ENSEÑANZA RSS-2 G-M Resolving Time Set This set is used for determining the resolving time of GM Counters. It consists of three half discs, two of which contain 5 microcuries of Tl-204 plus a third half disc with no activity. The count-rate of each half disc plus the blank (to maintain constant geometry) is measured and then both active half discs are combined for a measurement with high count-rate. The counting loss may now be calculated by adding the rates from each half disc and comparing the result to the count-rate with both halves combined. ORDER: RSS2- SN-9798 This set is used for determining the resolving time of GM counters. It consists of 3 half-discs: 2 of 5 microcuries of Tl-204, plus a third with no activity. This set is ideal for demonstration and introductory nuclear labs covering basic characteristics of radiation. The Co-60 is 1.0 uci and the Po-210 and Sr-90 are 0.1 uci activity. Also included in the set is a mixed source of Cs-137 and Zn-65 which students may use to identify an unknown isotope. The set consists of Ba-133, Cd-109, Co-57, Co-60, Cs-137, Mn-54. Na-22 and Cs/Zn. Source activities are all 1 uci, except the Cs/Zn source, which is 0.5 uci Cs and 1 uci Zn. Based on the original Union Carbide patented design, it offers exceptional performance combined with ease of use and safe operation. Each generator contains 10uCi. of Cs-137 which represents one Exempt Quantity making if free from specific State and Federal licensing. The generator can produce up to 1000 small aliquots of the short lived Ba-137m isotope with a half-life of 2.6 minutes. Each generator is supplied with 250 ml of eluting solution (0.9% NaCl) and additional solution may be ordered separately. The parent isotope Cs-137 with a half-life of 30.1 years beta decays (94.6%) to the metastable state of Ba-137m. This further decays by Página 4 de 6

5 gamma emission (662 kev) with a half-life of 2.6 minutes to the stable Ba-137 element. During elution, the Ba-137m is selectively "milked" from the generator leaving behind the Cs-137 parent. Regeneration of the Ba-137m occurs as the Cs-137 continues to decay, re-establishing equilibrium in less than 1 hour. Approximately 30 minutes after elution, the residual activity of the Ba-137m sample has decayed to less than one thousandth of its initial activity making it safe for disposal. When used with the eluting solution supplied, bleed through of the parent Cs-137 is less than 50 Bq/ml, affording a long working life. Each kit is supplied with the generator, syringe, tube, 250ml of eluting solution and a convenient storage case. ORDER: ISO = Isotope Generator Kit. 10 uci. ELSN = Extra Eluting Solution. 250 ml. CC100 = Bag of 100 planchets, 1" diameter. ISO--SN-7995A This Cs-137/Ba-137 m Isotope Generator is used to demonstrate the properties of radioactive decay. 6 Pb-210 Source Needle Needle sources are used to generate a point source of radiation inside cloud chambers for demonstrating alpha and beta radiation tracks. Three different types of isotopes are offered, a pure alpha emitter, a pure beta emitter and a combined alpha /beta emitter. The sources are constructed by depositing a small, license exempt quantity of radioactive isotope onto the eye of a standard sewing needle which is mounted on a test tube stopper for insertion into the could chamber. The needle and stopper are placed into test tube for protection during shipping and storage. Po-210 Needle. This alpha emitter contains 0.01 microcuries of Polonium-210. ORDER: NSPO210 - SE-7945 Needle source is used to generate a point source of radiation inside cloud chambers for demonstrating alpha and beta radiation tracks. A replacement part for Diffusion Cloud Chambers (SE-7943, SE-7944A). The source is constructed by depositing a small quantity of radioactive isotope onto the eye of a standard sewing needle which is mounted on a test tube stopper for insertion into the cloud chamber. ORDER: NSSR90 NS-Pb210 Pb-210 Needle microcuries of Lead-210 in equilibrium with its daughters Bi-210 and Po-210, produces a source of both alpha and beta particles.
