Scenario Connect things with the networks such as Internet Sensors monitoring the environment Gateways providing the connectivity to the servers/cloud Data analysis in the cloud End users get from the cloud 23/11/2015 2
IoT connectivity software for Gateways Interfaces supporting different protocols and for south and northbound Support for different radio technologies Core functionality is not hardware dependent Interfaces will be implemented/modified based on the hardware requirements Support for Docker container Testing with Ethernet, Wi Fi, 3G, ZigBee, BLE) 23/11/2015 3
SDN based IoT network management SDN as key driver for complex IoT system management Virtualization technologies for efficient software and functionality management and deployment Heterogeneous IoT environments with different radio technologies, protocols and devices 4
SDN based IoT network management Service virtualization of the IoT platform Service provider owns the infrastructure and resells shares to 3rd parties. Enterprises A, B and C use VNF (Virtual Network Function) instances which are connected to VNF instances in the service provider's network or having separate ones. VNFs implement different functions related to e.g. software updates, security, billing, resource management. Service provider operates the orchestration and management of the infrastructure or sells parts of it to 3rd parties.
Constrained Application Protocol (CoAP) CoAP is a protocol designed for constrained devices Support translation to HTTP VTT is active in the standardization, providing e.g. reference implementatios of upcoming standards VTT s implementation of ROHC profile for CoAP to minimize data traffic overhead VTT s reference implementation of CoAP publish subscribe broker CoAP tests in the real IoT and 5G environment at VTT 23/11/2015 6
Smart city Industrial applications Testing in 5G test network at VTT 23/11/2015 7
Examples of things used in the prototypes Weather station Safety vest Gateway prototypes and software vmware CoAP Server Data analysis Various sensors/devices OpenStack HTTP Server Algorithms Devices and software in the cloud 23/11/2015 8
IoT prototype examples
WLAN/Zigbee monitoring and Indoor positioning Testbed located in VTT CNL laboratory in Oulu. IoT gateway with HTTP/CoAP towards and from the cloud tested with different protocols and radio standards. Possible to monitor devices connected to surrounding WLAN networks etc. Analysis of the data, e.g. locating algorithm, in the cloud server Indoor positioning support with WLAN and Xbee Testing prototype in Kamppi shopping centre, Helsinki and a factory environment in Lahti (Indoor positioning with RSSI measurements, WLAN monitoring). 23/11/
Environmental monitoring Wireless environmental monitoring system running in an underground station in Barcelona since beginning of Measuring air quality (CO2, PM10), airflow, temperature etc. Measured information is used in a live control of station equipment to reduce stations electricity consumption. The system is expected to work years with single batteries and with only very limited need of maintenance. Quick set up for ad hoc measurements Over air configurable and reprogrammable Dynamic link quality based ad hoc routing to ensure robust communication in a harsh environment 23/11/
Safety vest solution Prototype wearable safety vest Gathered information relates to: Presence (based on RSSI of the radio and RFID tags) Activity (accelerometer) Temperature GPS position Support for wireless charging of devices integrated to the vest Our scenario illustrates the different levels from collecting and providing the sensor data to be utilized by the end users. Tested in school pilot in spring /11/
Measurements and tests Passive QoS measurement tool (Qosmet) Lightweight software running e.g., in the same device with the measured application Qosmet is based on data link level measurements All most important QoS metrics that can be measured (delay, jitter, packet loss, throughput, offered load etc.) RF measurement equipment Use case: IEEE (Zigbee) measurements in an industrialplant (Normek Oy) Zigbee range and link reliability in a real industrial environment Interference caused by machines 23/11/
