2 TARGET AUDIENCE AND COURSE OVERVIEW This conference is designed for the cardiologist, primary care physician, and nurse practitioner with special interest in cardiology. It will focus on practical and clinical issues faced on a daily basis by the health care professional. A combination of case presentations and didactic lectures will be used to provide an academically sound and clinically relevant cardiology review. Presentations will be provided by nationally recognized experts in their fields. The guest faculty will be joined by full-time faculty members of the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. This program will have clinical patient presentations in the morning and afternoon. There will be detailed discussions of each case by faculty and audience participation will be encouraged. The team approach for best possible outcome (echo technicians, RN and nurse practitioners, and physicians) will be emphasized. National guidelines (American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association) and evidence based medicine will be encouraged in the recommendations for patient care. Course Objectives Upon completion of the program, participants should be able to: Apply the appropriate management of the patient with asymptomatic aortic stenosis Describe transcatheter therapy for mitral regurgitation Summarize current approaches for treatment of atrial fibrillation Identify the benefits of wireless pulmonary artery measurement in heart failure management Discuss the genetics of inherited cardiomyopathies Review LDL cholesterol management and the newer drugs available Summarize recent advances of endovascular treatment of thoracic aortic disease Select treatment of idiopathic pericarditis Explain radial artery approach for catheterization and interventions Describe the current management of ventricular arrhythmias Explain the catheterization intervention procedure for chronic total occlusion of a coronary artery Examine pulmonary artery hypertension management Discuss the quantitative assessment of aortic regurgitation Review stem cell therapy and its role in cardiovascular disease Hosting Organizations Cardiology Update 2015: is hosted by the Philadelphia Heart Institute of and the Heart Institute of Southern New Jersey. Accreditation Physicians: The Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. Nurses: The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Department of Nursing Education, Innovation and Professional Development is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the PA State Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center s Commission on Accreditation. Designation of Credit Physicians: The Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania designates this live activity for a maximum of 8.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. Nurses: The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Department of Nursing Education, Innovation and Professional Development awards this activity 8.0 contact hours. AAPA: AAPA accepts certificates of participation for educational activities certified for Category I credit from AOACCME, Prescribed credit from AAFP, and AMA PRA Category 1 Credits from organizations accredited by ACCME or a recognized state medical society.
3 Certificates and Transcripts After the symposium has concluded, all participants will receive a follow-up with instructions and a link. Once participants submit the request for credit, the earned credits will be available for viewing on a transcript and certificates will be available for printing at Please note that the individual certificate will not be mailed. Disclosures The Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, Office of Continuing Medical Education, adheres to the ACCME Standards for Commercial Support. Faculty disclosure information will be made available in the conference materials and syllabi. Faculty members are also expected to disclose to participants any discussions of off-label and/or investigational uses of pharmaceutical products within their presentations. Registration Fees The registration fees for Cardiology Update 2015: are $ for physicians, and $ for residents, fellows, nurses, and other allied health professionals. Penn Medicine employees, faculty, staff, and students will receive special course rates of $ for physicians and $ for nurses, healthcare professionals, residents, and fellows. A valid Penn Medicine ID is required to receive the special rate. The registration fee includes attendance to the conference, a course booklet and a link to view the presentations online, continental breakfast, mid-morning and afternoon refreshments, lunch, and post-symposium reception. All registrations will be confirmed in writing if your registration form and fee are received by November 5, Cancellation and Refund Policy In order to process refunds for course withdrawals, cancellations must be received in writing by November 5, 2015 (subject to a service charge equivalent to 10% of the registration fee). No refunds will be issued thereafter. The University reserves the right to cancel or postpone this course due to unforeseen circumstances. In the event of cancellation or postponement, the University will refund any registration fees but is not responsible for related costs or expenses to participants, including cancellation fees assessed by hotels, airlines, and travel agencies. Date and Location Cardiology Update 2015: will be held at the Stockton Seaview Hotel & Golf Club, 401 South New York Road, Galloway, NJ Hotel Information The Stockton Seaview Hotel & Golf Club is located at 401 South New York Road, Galloway, NJ offers golf courses, putting green, and a driving range. There are tennis courts, an exercise room, and an indoor swimming pool. The hotel is a short distance from Atlantic City, with the fun of the casinos and boardwalk. Historic Smithville and the Brigantine National Wildlife Refuge are also nearby. The Stockton Seaview Hotel & Golf Club is offering the Cardiology Update 2015 participants a special group rate (single or double occupancy) of $ per night. These rates do not include the 15% sales and occupancy tax. The special room rate is available only until October 14, 2015 or until the block has filled (whichever comes first).
