2 About Mass Convergence and : The (Mass Convergence) envisions a Massachusetts where all environments lead to good health and economic wellbeing. We do this by harnessing the work of public and private funders, engaging within and across systems, to foster environments that promote good health for all with the aim to increase the number of healthy people living in healthy places. Kendall Foundation Massachusetts Department of Public Health Tufts Health Plan Foundation Health Resources in Action provides overall project direction and Mass Convergence is an affiliate of the national Convergence Partnership. The Mass Convergence partners are currently focusing their efforts to increase equitable access of healthy food by supporting change within the state s food system. (HRiA), a nonprofit public health and medical research funding organization based in Boston, Massachusetts has a mission to help people live healthier lives and build healthier communities through prevention, health promotion, policy, and research. HRiA works with a diverse group of clients across the country to address some of the most critical public health issues using innovative and evidence-based approaches to improve population health. Our clients/funders include the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, state and local public health departments, hospitals, and private/corporate philanthropic entities. Since its founding in 1957, HRiA has been at the forefront of public health, leading the way to promote healthier and more vibrant communities. 3 Opportunity: This is an exciting opportunity to gain experience and make a significant contribution to good health and economic wellbeing of Massachusetts residents. This is an unpaid, temporary internship. Position Description: The Intern will play a critical role in the continued development of Mass Convergence organizationally and through its strategic and programmatic efforts. Duties include: Duties and Responsibilities: Strategy Conduct periodic research on key concepts to inform Mass Convergence s overall strategy. Working with Project Director and leadership, facilitate an annual review of Mass Convergence s strategic plan. As appropriate, work with Project Director and leadership team to facilitate the creation of the next Mass Convergence strategic plan (process to begin sometime in 2016). Program Conduct periodic research on key concepts to inform Mass Convergence s overall strategy. Working with Project Director and leadership, facilitate an annual review of Mass Convergence s strategic plan. As appropriate, work with Project Director and leadership team to facilitate the creation of the next Mass Convergence strategic plan (process to begin sometime in 2016). Provide support for existing programmatic efforts all of which focus on engaging the funding community to advance system and environment change within the state s food system (current area of focus). Assist with annual landscape analysis and development of presentation to funders to determine potential areas of programmatic effort. Assist with planning and execution of convening/event bringing together advocates and decision-makers working across the state to highlight prevention and equity. (Note: This convening/event is tentative and will occur as a result of exploration of need currently happening; it may not occur within the timeframe of this internship opportunity.)

4 Operations Development and maintenance of various communication tools and protocols including Mass Convergence website (currently in development), marketing materials (currently in development), and correspondence with funding partners (conducted via as well as in-person meetings). Raise funds with Project Director and Health Resources in Action staff by conducting research about potential funders, developing funding requests and related materials, drafting post-grant reporting. Working with Project Director, assist in the establishment of metrics and system to evaluate Mass Convergence and its impact. Manage logistics for in-person and conference call funding partner meetings as well as leadership planning meetings including identifying date/time/location, agenda and meeting material development, speaker preparation and catering. Time Commitment: Minimum commitment is three months; at least one semester preferable Up to 10 hours per week for length of service; hours may fluctuate based on activity and interest of Intern All positions are unpaid Candidate Qualifications: Advanced undergraduate or graduate student in social work, nonprofit management, communications, or related field Commitment to equity, inclusion, and collaboration; experience with community organizing and/or advocacy a plus Excellent communications skills written, verbal; experience with website or graphic design a plus. Highly organized and motivated; ability to work independently (Note: Mass Convergence is a virtual office space) Meeting/event planning and execution a plus Reports To: Jessica del Rosario, Project Director, This description is intended to indicate the kinds of work duties that will be required in this position.
