2 STUDY ABROAD ICMS YOUR STUDY ABROAD PROGRAM The International College of, Sydney [ICMS] offers a Study Abroad program with full academic transfer to your home institution. STUDY LOAD At ICMS you can undertake 3 or 4 subjects during your semester abroad. That s approximately hours of class time per week. ACADEMIC SUPPORT To help you settle in and support you throughout your time at ICMS, experienced academic staff and counsellors are available should you need them. PROFESSIONAL ENVIRONMENT The ICMS professional performance program equips students with the self-discipline they will need when they start their careers; whether it be in the way they dress or the way they communicate. Students commencing their studies must bring a business suit for the first day of class. Please visit for further guidelines. OPTIONAL HOSPITALITY INTERNSHIP ICMS is committed to innovation in the delivery of educational programs, and continually strives to improve the experience for students enrolled in study abroad programs. A hospitality internship program has now been added to the ICMS study experience, involving a 120 hour work experience component, which can be completed prior to the commencement of your study abroad program. This internship program is only offered prior to the February study abroad term. This internship option is only open to applicants who are currently studying hospitality/tourism or events at their home University and have completed a previous internship or have work experience in the hospitality industry. This program has a quota and applicants will be assessed for eligibility for the program before they are made an offer. You must apply for the study abroad program first and be made a full offer before you can apply for the internship. I enrolled in ICMS as a Study Abroad student for just one term, to get an experience outside the United States in an English speaking country. Then I decided to return to complete the Masters of International Business program. ICMS challenged me to think critically about different global management issues. 3 SYDNEY CITY 15 MINUTE FAST FERRY MANLY BEACH 5 MINUTE WALK THIS PROGRAM OFFERS SPECIALISATION IN: Business International Tourism Event Hospitality Retail Services Property Services Marketing Sport Intakes in February, May and September; Residential facilities; Orientation Week activities designed to introduce you to your Study Abroad program and life in Sydney. ICMS ORIENTATION WEEK The College provides an intensive orientation program the week before classes officially start. O Week begins with a formal welcome to the College and introduces you to life in Sydney and at ICMS. You ll also be provided with timetable information, textbooks and course materials. You ll be required to wear smart casual clothes during O Week, and your own business attire during Week 1. INTERNATIONAL CULTURAL IMMERSION PROGRAM Join us for our 6-day International Cultural Immersion Program in Cairns before you head to ICMS for O Week. The 6-day program is an in-country orientation that welcomes you to your host country, helps you adjust to the academic and cultural differences you might encounter, introduces you to other study abroad students that will be attending ICMS, and exposes you to a beautiful and exciting area of Australia. Past students are full of praise for the program, expressing how many friends they made, how much they loved the activities, and how great the leaders were. The program provides a unique educational aspect to your study abroad experience and it will prepare you for a semester of new adventures and lifelong memories. Session topics include culture, health and safety, the Australian education system, cultural adjustment and living in Australia. Included in the program are accommodation and breakfast and some other meals, one day on the Great Barrier Reef, visit to Rainforestation for Aboriginal and wildlife experience, educational sessions and bus transfers to and from Cairns International Airport, if you arrive with the group from your home country. 4 STUDY ABROAD SEE THE WORLD WITHOUT EXTENDING THE LENGTH OF YOUR STUDY They say that travel broadens the mind. If you study while you travel, that s certainly the case. ICMS provides the complete experience. LIVING IN SYDNEY Sydney is the state capital of New South Wales. This spectacular city of over 4 million people is widely regarded as one of the world s most liveable cities. An extremely pleasant climate helps; even in mid-winter, temperatures rarely fall below 50ºF [10ºC], and while mid summer temperatures can occasionally top 97ºF [36ºC], the average is around 82ºF [28ºC]. This safe and peaceful environment for study is just a few minutes walk from Sydney s magnificent harbour, and the city itself can be reached in 15 minutes by fast ferry. 5 Please note that visa processing time can vary. Health insurance International students are required to have health insurance during their stay in Australia. The college will arrange your Overseas Student Health Cover [OSHC] through Medibank Private. OSHC contributes to the costs of doctors fees, specialists, ambulance, prescription medicines and emergency treatment. Norwegian and Swedish students do not need OSHC as cover is provided by their national health schemes. Working while you re in Australia International students may work in Australia while they are studying here. Work permits allow students to work for up to 20 hours a week during the academic term and full-time during term breaks. Full details are available during Orientation Week. Where you can live while enjoying your studies at ICMS As a study abroad student, you can take your choice of on-campus or offcampus accommodation. On-campus accommodation includes all meals. For more details, go to and look under College Life. There is also off-campus accommodation available in Manly. This can include shared houses or apartments, or private board.
