4 Placement in a band class is by audition. Auditions are in May. Everybody in the band program participates in marching band from August November with a few exceptions. From November on, classes still meet daily but perform separately. You can participate in BAND and SPORTS simultaneously. Talk to a High School Band Director to find out how. Participation in marching band can also fulfill your P.E. credit required to graduate.

35 CHILD DEVELOPMENT Child Development is a one semester course in which you learn about the development of a child from the prenatal period through adolescents. You have the opportunity to work in the preschool lab and take a Real Life mechanical baby home to experience what it would be like to have a newborn. Family and Consumer Science
36 CHILD GUIDANCE In Child Guidance you work directly with 3 & 4 year old children in a preschool lab for two class periods three times a week. Additionally, you will work at French Elementary one time a week in an elementary classroom. We celebrate all holidays and even have a field day. You must be either a junior or senior to take this class and love to work with children. Family and Consumer Science
37 INSTRUCTIONAL PRACTICES IN EDUCATION & TRAINING Instructional Practices in Education and Training is the perfect class for you if you want to become a teacher one day. You will directly work at either Zwink Elementary or Hildebrandt Intermediate as a student teacher three days a week. This class takes field trips to different universities to visit their education departments. College representatives come as guest speakers to share their knowledge in the field of education and give tips on the application process.
38 INTERPERSONAL STUDIES Interpersonal Students is a course that investigates life and how one relates to life. The course covers, selfawareness, family types, mental health, dating relationships, dating violence, consequences of premarital sex, and communication.
39 INTERIOR DESIGN This course addresses selecting and planning living environments. Topics include: elements and principles of design related to interiors, housing and architecture; floor planning skills; creating functional, safe, and aesthetic spaces; housing to meet special needs; furniture and appliances, kitchen designs; evaluating housing styles, locations, zones, restrictions, and ownership options.
40 FASHION DESIGN Fashion Design 1-current fashion trends, sketching, hand and machine sewing, designers and careers in fashion Advanced Fashion 2 and 3-fabric and patterns, making fashion with recycled materials, advanced clothing construction, fashion history, window displays and fashion shows.
41 LIFETIME NUTRITION & WELLNESS Lifetime Nutrition and Wellness is a one semester lab course which allows students to learn cooking skills necessary to promote a lifetime of wellness. There are many fun, friendly competitions that will take place among the students such as KO Chopped and Cupcake wars competitions. Cooking labs are done almost every week.
42 PRINCIPLES OF HUMAN SERVICES This laboratory course will enable students to investigate careers in the human services career cluster including counseling and mental health, early childhood development, family and community, and personal care services. This is the only 9 th grade course offered in Family and Consumer Sciences.
