5 Athens-Limestone County Council on Aging (256) West Pryor Street Athens, Alabama Transportation is available Monday through Friday for medical appointments and to the Centers. Those who require special attention (wheelchair) have the opportunity to schedule our wheelchair van on Mondays and Wednesdays. Our shopping route runs on Tuesdays and Thursdays for those in the city limits. In-Home Services are designed to meet the needs for seniors and the disabled who otherwise would need to be served in nursing homes. Our goals are for our Seniors to keep their independence by providing services that allow them to live in their own homes in the communities they love for as long as they can. Meals on Wheels provide one nutritious meal Monday Friday, year round (some holidays excluded). This service is for the elderly who cannot prepare meals or do not have anyone to cook for them. The Nutrition and Activity Centers around the county provide opportunities for education, fellowship, and recreation. Activities are scheduled such as: Line Dancing, Bingo, Live Music, Exercise, Games, and Trips. Contact the senior center nearest you. Medicare Part D Counseling/SHIP help is available year round. We can help with your enrollment, questions concerning Medicare and help apply for extra help if requirements are met. To make an appointment or for more information contact SHIP/Coordinator Jennifer Reece at SeniorX Program helps those 55 and older who meet requirements to get free or reduced prescription drugs through different companies. For more information contact Lauri King at Note: The purpose of this directory is to provide Limestone County Seniors with a comprehensive listing of available services. This directory is not intended as an endorsement; it has been compiled solely for your convenience to find agency resources and services.
