1 Configuring Your Gateman File Server Your Gateman system includes a File Server that can be used to provide authenticated access to Windows, MAC and Linux machines via the LAN and also provides a Web Browser based interface. It also provides folder based access rights to user groups, enforceable disk quotas and a virus scanner. Within the system, your Gateman server makes these features available via a set of robust services including SAMBA, Quota, etc., and provides easy wizards and appropriate settings to configure your system quickly and effectively. Allocating the File Server Disk Size At the time of installation of Gateman, you provided a value for the size of storage that would be reserved for camera pictures as shown below. Your Gateman disk is partitioned as follows: Base OS - 20GB essential reserved Swap - 4GB essential reserved Gateman program, databases, video storage - YOU MUST ALLOCATE at least 10GB File Share area - Rest of the space On a 500GB disk if you enter 200, 25GB will be utilized for the base OS and swap space, 200GB used for Gateman program and camera pictures, and 275GB will be allocated to File Sharing which includes shared folders and user folders. 2 File Server Configuration To configure your Gateman File Server, log in to your Gateman Client as an Administrator and go to the Administration -> FileServer menu. You will be provided with a window with buttons on the LHS providing various configuration options. Creating File User Groups Permissions within your Gateman File Server folders are given to User Groups. Your first task is to create these groups based on user functional requirements. Remember that a user can belong to exactly one group so create your File User Groups appropriately. Click on the Groups button to open the window shown below. Enter the Group Name here, then click the Add button to create a new Group To Modify a Group name, Select the Group from the List at the top. Enter the new Group Name in the entry field Click the Modify button Group names must be Alpha-Numeric and must not contain spaces. Within a home one may create the groups: Parents Children Users (for guests or relatives) Gateman Integrated Security Configuring Your Gateman File Server

3 Configuring the Shared Device Click the Devices button to configure the name of the file share and whether to enforce storage space quotas. This table shows all devices that are available within your Gateman system. Your Gateman share will be visible in your Network Neighborhood by the name entered in this field. You may modify this name to suit. Check this box if you wish to prevent users from using more than the configured disk space. Alternatively, the user will be allowed to use additional space and the administrator will be notified. Note that you may configure additional devices including attached USB storage to share using this mechanism. Creating and Configuring Shared Folders Click the Folders button to create shared folders within the Shared Devices configured in the earlier section. For each folder created you need to specify: An alphanumeric name for the folder. At this level you must specify Alpha-Numeric names without any spaces or special characters. Spaces may be used in Subfolders within this folder. The maximum size in Megabytes the folder may grow to. 4 Table with list of configured folders. Selecting a Folder (row) makes the entries available in the fields below for modification. To Create/Add a new folder: 1. Enter an alpha-numeric name for the folder 2. Enter the size of the folder 3. Type in a folder comment 4. Select the device the folder is to be created in 5. Click the Add button To Modify a folder: 1. Select the row defining the folder from the table at the top 2. The Folder details appear in the entry fields below 3. Modify the fields as required 4. Click the Modify button To Delete a folder: 1. Select the row defining the folder from the table at the top 2. The Folder details appear in the entry fields below 3. Click the Delete button 4. Note the folder entry is deleted, but the folder itself remains on the drive. Contents within the folder may be recovered from the device manually on the Gateman server. 5 Assigning Folder Permissions to User Groups When a folder is created, no User Groups are given access to it. Click the Access rights button to assign permissions to each of the created folders. Each Folder may have the following permissions given to each one of the user groups separately. None No visibility to Files or subfolders within this folder Read Allowed to view and copy files within the folder, but unable to Modify or Delete files Read/Write Allowed to read, modify and delete files and subfolders within the folder. This Drop List Box holds the list of configured folders. Select the required folder to display the Access Rights assigned to the Groups in the table below. Assign suitable access rights for the group selected using this field; then click the Modify button To modify the access rights: 1. Select the required Folder from the drop list box at the top 2. In the table, select the group whose access rights are required to be modified 3. Give the group suitable Access Rights from the drop list box 4. 6 File Server Settings Click the Misc settings button makes available key settings for the Gateman File Server. Check to enable Gateman File Server The Workgroup this computer is a part of The name of this computer in the workgroup The folder size overrun permitted. This is enforced only if the Check quota box is checked in the Devices section. Assigning Users to File Groups After configuration of your Gateman File Server and other Gateman modules (e.g. Devices, Access Control and Attendance, and Http Proxy Server), you need to define the users and assign them to various groups. This is done from within the Administration -> Users menu. Please refer to the relevant document for additional details. For each configured user, the administrator may configure: Whether the user has access to Gateman s File Server The File Server Group the user is assigned to Whether the user has a personal Home folder and the maximum size of the home folder. 7 The following screen shows the File Server user-based settings Check to allow the user access to the Gateman s File Server Select the File Group the user is assigned to Set the size of the user Home directory. Put 0 if the user must not be assigned a home directory Virus Scanner Your Gateman Server includes the widely used ClamAV based engine for Virus Scanning. This virus database is updated automatically on a daily basis from the internet. Changes to the virus scanning engine are also periodically made by the developers. These changes are compiled at our lab and uploaded to our web server from which your Gateman server is automatically updated. Gateman Integrated Security Configuring Your Gateman File Server

8 Applying the Changes Once the configuration changes defined in each of the previous subsections is completed, you will need to restart your Gateman Service used for the File Server. Select the Apply Changes button from the left, and in the screen that opens click the Restart File Server button. Notes: The file server must be restarted if user s are added or modifications made to any subsections within the File Server configuration Be cautious; restarting the file server will drop ongoing user and program operations This operation may take a while. When completed, the Restart File Server button will be enabled and a Success message will appear in the Status Bar at the bottom.
