Writing Requirement: a) Essay in 2 or 3-credit course, 75% of overall grade; OR b) Term essay; OR a) An article/note/comment that is published or accepted for publication in one of the following Law journals, and approved by Faculty Advisor of Journal: - McGill Law Journal - McGill Journal of Sustainable Development Law & Policy - McGill Journal of Law and Health

5 Complementary Courses (9 credits) These complementary credits are required for your degree can be taken in 2L, 3L or 4L: 3 credits from Common Law basket 3 credits from Civil Law basket OR courses from Transsystemic list: count toward both baskets above. 3 credits from Human Rights and Social Diversity course list

6 Elective Credits (43 credits) Electives can be taken in 2L, 3L or 4L: Law course credits Non-law course credits (max 6 credits) Non-course credits (max 15 credits) Outside course credits (max 12 credits)

7 Elective Credits Law Credits Law elective credits can from: Common Law Basket Civil Law Basket Transsystemic course list Human Rights and Social Diversity list Principles of [Canadian] Administrative Law course list

8 Elective Credits Non-Law Credits Non-Law credits = credits from courses that are not law courses. These can be: Cours en Arts et Sciences Tout autre cours offert à McGill (autorisation requise) Max 6 non-law credits permitted

9 Non-Course Credits Clinical Legal Education credits, such as: - Concours de plaidoirie - International Human Rights Internship Program - Clerkships - Journals - Legal Clinic Course - Group Assistants - Tutorial Leaders - Student Initiated Seminars Maximum 15 non-course credits are permitted.

10 Elective Credits Outside Credits Outside credits = credits outside of McGill Maximum 12 outside credits are permitted: 6 non-law credits + 6 law credits 3 non-law credits + 9 law credits 0 non-law credits + 12 law credits Note: the max number of non-law credits is 6, whether credits are earned outside or at McGill.

11 Elective Credits Outside Credits: Exchange Max 21 outside credits 21 outside credits = 15 exchange credits + 6 outside credits. Up to 6 non-law credits while on exchange, but total number of non-law credits for your degree cannot exceed 6.

14 Honours (15 credits) BCL/LLB + Major or Minor = 120 credits Apply Fall 3L submit 1,200 word thesis proposal Begin Winter or Summer 3L Thesis = 30,000 to 35,000 words

15 3 Program ans : max Duration 18 credits/term summer credits 3,5 ans : 15 credits/term 4 ans : min12 credits/term to retain full-time status! Part- time permitted in exceptional circumstances. Keep in mind the Five Year Rule

16 Optional 1L Winter Course You have until winter add/drop (January 20, 2015) to select one of the following 3 credit courses: PUB : L Etat Administration (Can. admin law) PUB : Criminal Law (required) LAWG : Family Law (transsystemic) PUB : Public International Law (HR & Social Div)
