7 Commonalities among ALL PS programs Progression requirements exist each year If not met, your program will be changed Higher GPAs required for Research Specialist (RS) than for Comprehensive For PS credits: RS 7, Comp 6 Overall GPA: RS 6, Comp 5 Minimum C grades for PS295 and PS296 needed in the RS program Attempts to return are possible if not met on first try (more time needed!) PLEASE NOTE: to graduate you need 7.0 GPA in PS GPA overall

8 Differences between Comprehensive & Research Specialist Research Specialist programs have At least 2 research experience courses PS360, PS361, PS362, PS363, PS370, PS375, or PS382 At least one must be taken in 3 rd year At least 2 seminar courses PS460, PS461, PS462, PS463, PS465, PS470, PS475, PS480, or PS482 At least one must be taken in 3 rd year At least level methods or statistics courses PS394 + at least one of PS395, PS397, or PS398 usually completed in Year 3 One History of Psychology course: PS390 Possibility of doing a Thesis Comprehensive students are allowed to take SOME Research Specialist courses: PS360, PS361, PS362, PS363, PS370, PS375, PS382, PS394, PS395 or PS397 Must be willing to drive to Waterloo campus Must have a minimum grade of C- (GP 4.00) in each of PS295 and PS296

9 Differences between Comprehensive & Research Specialist Any PS Research Specialist program with a Thesis option GPA of 9 (B+) in psych to be accepted to take PS499 (thesis) Less than B+: must take another 300- or 400-level PS credit instead Graduate programs in Psych want to see that you ve done a thesis Thesis not available in Comprehensive programs?ct330 If Research Specialist is what you want, apply before Year 3 to transfer

10 Progression to Year 2 for PS Honours Comprehensive students You must complete PS101 and PS102 in Year 1 to continue as a Psychology major to take 2 nd year Psych courses Progression as an Honours Psych BA major from Year 1 to Year 2 requires: a Grade Point (GP) of 5.0 (C) in each of PS101 and PS102 a 5.00 GPA overall What if you didn t get a C in PS101 in Fall 2010? I passed PS101, but got C-, D+, D, or D- Stay enrolled in PS102 in Winter 2011, need to retake PS101 and get a C or better + get a C or better in PS102 if you want to stay in Honours PS I got an F in PS101 MUST drop PS102 in Winter 2011, need to retake PS101 + take PS102 after finishing PS101 if you want to stay in Honours PS PS101 and PS102 are offered during the summer Online live at the Waterloo campus
