You can order clothes, shoes, electronics and even furniture conveniently online and have them delivered to you instantly. But what do you do if you run out of space at home for all the things you buy? For a long time, the only answer was to rent an inconvenient, overpriced self-storage unit. We invest the savings into free collections, better prices and more flexible rates. Space has become an expensive resource in our ever expanding and rapidly urbanising world. In big cities from New York to Tokyo, it has become a trend to streamline housing which has led to the creation of micro-apartments in which space is used as efficiently as possible. However, such a solution results in horrendously cramped living conditions. As a result, storage services have boomed in recent years as people are looking to store items that they don t necessarily need at all times. However, traditional self storage - which includes lugging boxes around a city to remote warehouses is woefully inefficient, expensive and only makes life more stressful for city dwellers. For example: the London storage market has long since been dominated by traditional self storage operators, which charged an average rate of per sq ft per annum in 2013 as the annual survey of the UK Self Storage Association found. The survey also revealed that traditional self storage operators charge 60% higher rates for 25 sq ft units than for 100 sq ft rooms. The consequence is that customers looking to only store a small amount of items often have to pay a premium to store their belongings. 7 The founders DAVID FUCHS MARTIN TWELLMEYER ROB REBHOLZ Though he may not look like it, David is a real Mexican at heart. When he s not busy making plans for his ultimate exodus to the country of salsa and sombreros, David is managing SpaceWays Global Operations and Supply Chain. Before SpaceWays, David ran Business Intelligence at Dafiti Mexico (a Rocket Internet company). He began his career at J.P. Morgan Investment Bank in London and holds a Diploma degree from WHU - Otto Beisheim School of Management. Martin s favourite colour is purple. So guess who had the last say when it came to deciding which colour SpaceWays logo would have. Before he founded Space- Ways together with David and Rob, Martin launched his career as a Management Consultant at Bain & Company and worked as an Investment Manager for a Private Equity fund. He holds a Diploma degree from WHU Otto Beisheim School of Management. In his position as Managing Director he is now covering Product, IT and Administration. When he was a little child, Rob wanted nothing more than to become an astronaut. And while that didn t quite work out, Rob still managed to travel the world and to acquire an MBA from the University of California, Los Angeles, as well as a Diploma degree from WHU Otto Beisheim School of Management. He started his career as a Management Consultant at A.T. Kearney and later on founded an ecommerce company. At SpaceWays he is the Managing Director responsible for Marketing and PR.
