Nigeria is closer than ever to eradicating polio, riding a successful effort to reach children in seven northern states at highest risk for the disease. "Rotarians have [gone] into remote areas of the country by car, canoe, motorbike, and even on foot to ensure every child gets the vaccine."

2 Our club mourns the untimely death of Garnet Millar and our thoughts and condolences go out to Shirley and family. Garnet has been an active and passionate Rotarian since joining our club in May of When volunteers were needed, Garnet was first in line. President Doug recruited Garnet to serve as our Director of Community Service in only his second year in the club. At our December 9th meeting an obviously ill Garnet was present to present a $2000 cheque to Arrowsmith Search and Rescue, he died one week later. Rest in Peace Garnet. 3 Guests Just one guest this morning; Susan and Pat welcome Arlene Costigan who will be joining our club in the New Year. Welcome Arlene! Rotary Moment Today was our Club s and the Club Society s Annual General Meeting and Ken explained both the Club and the Society s structure as it applied to our AGM agenda. In short the people we elect, at our AGM Ken explained become members of the Board of Directors for both the Club and the Society. The Society was created when we acquired Rotary House and it is the Society that owns and operates Rotary House. Annual General Meeting President Doug calls our 2014 Annual General meeting of the Rotary Club of Qualicum Beach Sunrise and the Rotary Club of Qualicum Beach Sunrise Society to order.

4 Club and Society Treasurer Bill has posted financial statements up to June 30, 2014, the end of the fiscal year. The Society s books were reviewed by Sabo, Jang and Company, Certified General Accountants. (Note- the document is a review not an audit) The Statement of Operations reported Revenue of $18,230 and Expenses totaling $15,411 resulting in an excess of $2,819. Capital Assets totaled $110,303; Restricted Assets (Roof Fund) totaled $3,536; unrestricted assets in the form of a GIC totaled $2,073. The Club Financial Report remains in the hands of our Accountants, however Bill has posted the report prior to being reviewed. Club Operations components are: Ø Club Activities Costs includes: o Club dues, Meeting Fees, Weekly draw, Socials, Initiation Fees, Clothing Sales, Interest Revenue, Recycling, and Miscellaneous revenue Ø Membership Costs include: o Training, DLTA, Membership Kits, PETS Ø Public Relations and Communication Costs include; o Advertising/promotion, Website update and maintenance, Miscellaneous Ø Club Administration Costs include: o Rent of Rotary House, Stationary/Guest Cards, Credit Card machine rental, Credit Card use expenses, Year End changeover, Pins, awards, portraits and badges, Flowers cards, Postage and Post Box, Computer expense, Miscellaneous expenses Ø Rotary International and District Dues Club Operations for the year ending June 30, $4, Charitable : Ø Amount Available $32, Ø Community Service Expenditures to 30/06/2014 $10, (44%) Ø International Service Expenditures to 30/06/2014 $9, (40%) Ø Vocational Service Expenditures to 30/06/2014 $3, (16%) Ø Carry Over to $7, President Elect Mike presented the report of the Nomination Committee and called for further nominations; no further nominations came from the floor and the slate was passed as presented. 5 Announcements Ø Bill advised that second half dues are due and payable for those members owing. Ø Bob has volunteered to serve as community Service Director for the balance of this Rotary year Special Awards Long time Rider fan Blake read a letter purported to come from the Saskatchewan Roughriders Board of Directors stripping Bob of any and all allegiance he holds toward the club. It seems Bob was seen waving a BC Lions pennant, for shame Bob. Mike provided the leadership that led to the installation of the stairs that connect the Fern Street sidewalk with Rotary House. However, Mike insisted that the term Mike s Stairs didn t really tell it like it was because many others participated in the planning and in the work parties. Nevertheless Mike, I suspect the stairs will forever after be referred to as Mikes Stairs, like it or not.
