4 Industry giants, Rolls-Royce, Honeywell, and DuPont continue to grow in the region in large part due to the availability of a skilled workforce in advanced manufacturing Virginia State University is the only public institution in Virginia with degree programs in manufacturing engineering and logistics and industrial technology (education) Virginia Tech University has the #3 graduate and #7 undergraduate degree program in Industrial & Systems Engineering in the nation. The university offers 14 specialized undergraduate engineering degrees, including Aerospace, Science & Mechanics, and more John Tyler Community College offers the only Precision Machining Program in Virginia where students train directly on machinery donated by Rolls-Royce Virginia Commonwealth University engineering programs have a heavy research emphasis, especially in the areas of biomedical engineering, chemical and life science engineering, computer engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, and mechanical engineering University of Virginia offers 10 different engineering programs and four off-campus collaborative programs, including Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering and Science, Technology, and Society Engineering

6 Commonwealth Center for Advanced Manufacturing (CCAM) Located at Rolls-Royce s Crosspointe campus, the 60,000 square feet stateof-the-art research center is a collaborative R&D facility between Virginia s elite higher education institutions University of Virginia, Virginia Tech, and Virginia State University combined with corporate heavyweight partners Rolls-Royce, Siemens, Sulzer Metco, Newport News Shipbuilding, Chromalloy, Sandvik Coromant, Canon, and Aerojet CCAM is the only collaboration of its kind in North America and one of only seven in the world. Research is focused on surface engineering and manufacturing systems The industry motivation behind the facility is minimizing the transition from research to the commercialization of research solutions. CCAM members are directly involved in the research process, and own the resulting intellectual property, creating global competitive advantages CCAM is a boon to member businesses internal performances and the Gateway Region s economy. The campus is positioned to attract additional suppliers and like-minded industry partners that recognize the potential advantages of locating near Crosspointe and partnering with CCAM
