6 THE ULTIMATE COURSE The Ultimate Course is perfect for those who want the luxury of a fast track-course, and on a practical level need to continue with their employment! Our course is a week, Monday & Tuesday, and is spilt into 2 phases. In the first phase Fashion & Beauty - you will learn skills geared towards working as a make up artist in the fashion industry, you will also gain knowledge and understanding of the skills required for styling, which is becoming an integral part of the job. We teach the latest trends, tips & techniques which are required for contemporary make up & hair design. The course will also cover the latest air brushing techniques, and Bridal to occasion hair & make up and a 4 day portfolio shoot showcasing your skills! The second phase Media is where you will be able to learn the skills of a make up artist who wish to pursue a career in TV & Film, you will learn technical skills including ageing, wigs & postiche, casualty, character, historical & period wigs, hair, styling, make up application, body art, camouflage make up, creative design, prop making, mood boards & script breakdown, and topped off with a 4 day portfolio shoot to put you on the right path for your career! The courses do not run on bank holidays and a short break between Phase1 and Phase 2 allows the student to refresh and research! For those who already have knowledge in basic make up, you may find that Phase 2 fills in any gaps in your knowledge. Please note: It is more cost effective to complete both courses. v

It is essential for beginners and for those who want to go into make up application for stills, print, advertising, commercials, catalogue work and bridal to occasion make up. 11 MEDIA MAKE UP & HAIR PHASE TWO Media is the second phase of the Ultimate program. If you already have suitable hair and make up experience you can access this course separately from Phase 1. It is sometimes necessary for a 1-1 interview to take place, you may be asked to demonstrate your skills & knowledge. This is an intensive and rewarding course learning up-to-date techniques, covering a wide range of mediums to prepare you for work in TV & Film. 18 FUNDING & ACCOMMODATION PAYPAL If you wish to spread your payment for your course, we can offer a secure PAY- PAL payment plan. Course deposit and kits must be paid up front however the remainder of the fee can be split up into installments that are taken directly from your account, using PAYPAL direct debit contract. CAREER DEVELOPMENT LOAN This option is a bank loan that is available to assist you pay for work related learning, allowing you to borrow between 300 and 10,000 for course fees, travel and living expenses. This amount is available to help support up to two years of training or three years if the third is non paid work experience. The Career Development Loan should only be considered if other forms of funding, grants or student funding options have been looked into as this is a commercial loan product. 19 FAQ Q. Do I have to have prior experience? A. No, but if you are a beginner you will need to do one of our beginner s courses before the more advanced ones, you re welcome to call us and discuss. Q. How old do I have to be? A. You will need to be 18+ to participate on one of our training courses. Q. I feel anxious about returning into Education after many years in employment, am I too old to start a new career? A. You are never too old to re-train. Older Make Up Artist's are welcome and seen as having a wealth of life experience, as well as the right temperament for industry. Q. Is it enough to do just one of your courses? A. That depends on your current experience and what you want to achieve after the course. Q. Can I be taught everything I need to know at your Academy? A. You can learn many skills at Make Up North Academy. With our guidance, you can then select courses that you are interested in to fill in any gaps you may feel you have. We teach everything you will need to know as a make up artist! Q. I m already a make up artist, is there anything I could learn with you to enrich my skills? A. Contact us to discuss your options. Many make up artists lack confidence with hair-up skills and are inexperienced with Air-brushing, which is a must for HD filming, HD Make Up application, again is a technique that is not taught widely. Q. Are you planning to run a full time course? A. We offer flexible training with courses running on a Monday and Tuesday each week / 16 hours maximum allowing individuals to keep family and work commitments. Q. Are there kits included in the courses? A. All materials are provided for you to train with at The Academy. However, we give you the option of buying a high quality set of make up brushes or hair kit, on our 2, 3 and 4 Day makeup Courses, excellent Airbrush and compressor for Airbrush courses and our Evening courses. Many of you may have your own products, or want to personalise your kits, so we also help you develop your professional kits further, through discounted make up kits designed by us. 20 Q. What opportunities are there for working in Industry after training? A. There are more and more opportunities being created, with the development of Media City in Salford Quays. It is a very competitive industry, so work is not guaranteed on completion of any training. But if you have determination, motivation & enthusiasm you are one step ahead. We keep in touch and develop lasting relationships with our students, providing advice and contacts afterwards. Q. I have gaps in my current skills and want to retrain in specific areas; can you design a course for me? A. Yes! If you have a group of 6, take advantage of our Design Your Own Learning Module. You tell us what your requirements are and we will tailor a course to suit your needs. Q. I am just leaving school and I know I want to be a make up artist, can I train at your Academy? A. If you are just leaving school, you will need to do a 2 year Hairdressing Course first. Hairdressing is a VERY important skill for a make up artist, and also you need to be that little bit older to have more of a chance of getting work in industry. I have personally taught students at 17 who have done fantastically well... but they have gone back to college a few years later and done Hairdressing! It is more advantageous to complete hair first as it builds your confidence and communication skills. Q. I would like to do one of your courses, can I pay in installments? A. Yes, there is an option to pay in installments with an agreement that spreads the cost and is collected by PAY- PAL. Cost of deposit and kits must be paid prior to course. You can spread the cost of the course prior to start or during. Failure to continue payments or cancelation of payment will incur legal action as a payment contract will be in place to protect Make Up North Academy. xix
