Executive Summary OVERVIEW Beginning June 2014, the non-profit Ghetto Film School (GFS) will partner with 21 st Century Fox to launch GFS LA, an industry-wide creative education initiative in the MacArthur Park community of Los Angeles. Phase 1 of GFS LA is a 3-year implementation of GFS award-winning Fellows Program, with 75 diverse young storytellers completing a 30- month college-level pre-professional immersion in cinematic storytelling and production training. The Fellows Program is free of charge for all students, highlighting 21 st Century Fox s industry leadership by: Showcasing the company s investment in education Creating a new multi-cultural talent pipeline Producing a series of high-profile live events Distributing original student work and behind the scenes content At the conclusion of The Fellows Program, students will enroll at top colleges and universities, becoming outstanding candidates for the LA creative industry s recruitment initiatives and programs. 7 LOC ATION MacArthur Park is a community in the Westlake region of Los Angeles, and will serve as the primary location for GFS LA and The Fellows Program. Five factors make MacArthur Park an ideal location for this initiative: 1. Key Partner Heart of Los Angeles (see next page) 2. Population Density A young population of 50,000 people per square mile, the highest density west of the Mississippi River 3. Network of Schools Over 70 schools are walking-distance from MacArthur Park 4. Accessibility 2 Metro stops make MacArthur a major transit hub for youth to access 5. Greenspace MacArthur & Lafayette Parks are available for student production work 7

9 KEY PARTNER Heart of Los Angeles (HOLA) is GFS key local partner, an acclaimed nonprofit with a 25-year history in MacArthur Park delivering exceptional programs in academics, arts and athletics to 2400 youth annually. Specific to The Fellows Program, HOLA will provide the following: Direct referrals to schools and orgs for student recruitment Marketing support through digital/social media and PR channels Classroom and computer lab space for daily instruction Access to facilities and neighboring Lafayette Park for production exercises, screenings and guest speaker visits Fellows will also participate in regular site visits to studio lots, development offices and post houses, weekly trips to top LA cinemas, museums and art galleries, and an international production trip during the annual Thesis Project. 11 INSTRUC TIO N & C O NTENT The Fellows Program delivers hours of direct instruction per student over a 30-month engagement, featuring 9 sequential courses in film production, creative writing & college/industry preparation (see Program Schedule). Our creative education model operates at the intersection of Art, Education and Business. ART Film is a collaborative industrial art form that unites all other forms of creative expression. The Fellows Program features the following art-based trainings, listed in individual course-books under the Creative heading: Writing Exercises: Structure, Voice, Tone, Character, Script Format Production Exercises: Cinematography, Sound, Production Design, Editing EDUCATION Through a scholarly approach to film, Fellows learn a wide range of skills useful for future success in academic settings, including the following topics, listed in individual course-books under the Academic heading: Screenings & Discussions: History, Analysis, Criticism, Techniques Handouts, Demos, Readings: Technology, Theory, Genre, Vocabulary; SAT Training, College Applications & Financial Aid BUSINESS The Fellows Program is built on a business-driven, product-focused foundation, with the following trainings grounded in real-world workforce applications, listed in individual course-books under the Professional heading: Project Assignments: Pitching, Casting, Storyboards, Production, Post Guest Talks & Site Visits: Writers, Directors, Cinematographers, Production Designers, Actors, Producers, Editors, Artists; Galleries, Studio Lots, Post Houses, Mixing Labs, Prop Houses, Development Offices 11
