March Newsletter Dear Teresa Welcome to Help Them Hope's second monthly newsletter. Thank you for taking the time to follow us on our journey as we spread H.O.P.E; Health, Opportunity, Progress, Education, to the impoverished physically impaired youth of Perú. Help Them Hope at El Hogar This month we will discuss one of Help Them Hope's program: Hands of Hope. In January 2010, Help Them Hope (HTH) created a partnership with a non-profit organization in Chaclacayo, 27/06/ :53

El Hogar is a home that was started by Dr. Anthony Lazzara, commonly known as Dr. Tony, for young children who suffer from a wide range of disabling illnesses. The home provides free medical care, room and board, and a safe place to call home. Help Them Hope has aligned with El Hogar to provide educational support and services. HTH directly works with 19 patients living at El Hogar and helps to connect them to institute and university education as well as English and Computer courses. Of the 19 students, 9 of them are receiving financial aid and English classes and the rest are recieving English classes. El Hogar helps to monitor the students progress in their classes while HTH is financially supporting the education. This is an excellent combination between the two organizations and one that will provide better services and resources to each of the patients as they continue with their education. As most people know, English is an opportunity that opens doors to new possibilities. Help Them Hope encourages each student to learn English and financially supports the classes that are needed at El Hogar. Recently, they have partnered with a local institute, Auslang English, to help provide the material needed to create a consistent effective program. These classes have given the students an opportunity to broaden their horizons and increase their cultural awareness. They have strengthened the connection between themselves and the volunteers as they are able to connect over the theme of learning languages together. Another step HTH has taken to support El Hogar is to recruit volunteers. So far HTH has recruited 20 volunteers to help work at El Hogar and the goals will be to increase this number within the future. The volunteers have been extremely helpful and they have supported the staff and helped create a warm and loving environment in the home. They have learned a lot from the perseverance that the children demonstrate day in and day out, and have also been able to teach the children about giving to others and exploring ones boundaries. We want to take this moment to thank all of our current and past volunteers for all the hard work and dedication they have given El Hogar. Thank you so much for all you have done. El Hogar San Francisco de Asís has built a strong network within the community here in Lima, and luckily, Help Them Hope has been able to create just a few more connections for them. One in particular was with a local international private school, Markham. HTH sourced $5,000 to El Hogar to help pay for much needed therapy equipment, two computers, furniture, school supplies, and games. Recently, Help Them Hope sourced another donation for clothes and shoes from the Buckner International Foundation. Creating awareness about El Hogar within the community and uniting other NGOs is a major goal for Help Them Hope. Staff members have been visiting other organizations, schools, companies, and professional individuals to spread the word about the amazing stories these children have. HTH's goal is to increase awareness at both the national and international level. Click here to learn more about how you can donate and help support our programs. As many patients come in and out of El Hogar San Francisco de Asís it is difficult to maitain contact with all of the patients once they are medically cleared from the home. Help Them Hope

3 3 de 5 27/06/ :53 wishes to reduce this gap and create a long-term sustainable plan for each discharged patient to carry-on with their studies and later obtain sustainable employement. Help Them Hope helps to maintain contact with ex-patients of El Hogar through our Hands of Hope Program. Help Them Hope at El Hogar in the Future Help Them Hope will be working closely with El Hogar San Francisco de Asís in the future by Hiring and training a new full-time teacher to continue providing English and Computer classes and further educational programs. Sourcing more scholarships for the students at the home. Recruiting volunteers at a local, national and international level. Sourcing grants to improve educational resources at El Hogar. Creating awareness in the national and international community. HTH and El Hogar will be working side-by-side for the greater good of the children and young adults and the two organizations will continue to strengthen their partnership and grow together. Exciting Updates If you missed what was going on in Facebook, here is a quick recap of some amazing accomplishments by our students On February 28th, Lucio, started his 2nd cycle of culinary school! On March 1st, Froilan, who is completely blind, started his physiotherapy course in Arequipa thanks to the support of one of our sponsors. This is an incredible accomplishment and we are so proud of Froilan's bravery and dedication. He is an inspiration to us all! Lady started her last year of secondary school and is just around the corner to completing this huge step in her educational career. David has continued to inspire us as well, as he has just started his 4th year at secondary school at the age of 27. He has pushed through many obstacles and is a constant reminder that you should never give up! Milton, another blind student, will be starting at the Institute for the Blind and will be studying Braille and music by the end of this month. HTH has started English classes throughout the week and on Saturdays at our Center of Hope. HTH provided a Career Guidance Workshop for their students to give them some tips about independent living and life-skills management. HTH sourced a donation of shoes from the Buckner Foundation to the children at El Hogar San Francisco de Asís.

4 4 de 5 27/06/ :53 Success Story Jaime Luis Campomanes Tarazona was born on July 10 th 1986 in the northern mountains of Peru. He had a terrible accident at the age of 12 and suffered third degree burns. He came to El Hogar San Francisco de Asís in 2002 where he received medical attention, physical therapy, room and board, education, and above all; love, support, and a family to lean on. In 2009, he was given the opportunity to study and was financially supported by Help Them Hope. He started studying English at Enrique Guzmán y Valle University Language Center. He now wants to finish his studies and become an English teacher so he can pass on his knowledge to others who want to learn. In the future he wishes to travel abroad and teach English Internationally. He is currently living at El Hogar San Francisco de Asís and is loved by all. He speaks to all of the volunteers in English and is respected amongst his peers and the staff. He is an excellent role model to the younger children and demonstrates a dedication to education that all of the children look up to. He sets a wonderful example that it is possible to overcome a difficult and dark past to create an even brighter future.
