7 Here s the truth it is rare to get hired by simply submitting a resume. The purpose of the resume is to help get you an interview. And at the interview, remember that 40 percent of a hiring decision is based on personality. You ve got to get the interview and sell your pitutee off. Tony Beshara, Recruiter and Author 5. Understand the purpose of a resume The purpose of a resume is. Five common resume mistakes: 1. Objective statement at the top 2. Use of fancy fonts and styling to stand out from the pile 3. Includes every job you have ever had (exception to this is a CV) 4. Typos 5. Includes references or the statement References available upon request. Five tips for today s resume: 1. Targeted for a specific position 2. Clean, simple, organized layout 3. Bulleted 4. Accomplishment focused 5. 10 About Lisa Rykert Lisa is a compassionate and inspiring professional coach who helps people achieve their personal and professional dreams. She uses a variety of proven coaching processes and tools to create a customized plan to work with each of her clients and help them move boldly forward on their goals within a focused time frame. Lisa is a Board Certified Coach through the Center for Credentialing and Education, and is also certified as a Dream Coach (which is International Coach Federation accredited). She has over twenty years of experience in human resources (with former certification as a Senior Professional in Human Resources), business management, and organizational development and has worked in municipal, non-profit, corporate, and higher education institutions. She holds a Master of Science degree in Mental Health Counseling from Nova Southeastern University. Lisa enjoys contributing to the community and is currently involved as a volunteer mentor for high school and college youth to help them achieve their personal, academic, and career goals. She also volunteers her coaching and facilitation skills to support women entrepreneurs with their personal and business goals.
