The Education Commission is planning to expand the youth program. The clergy has conducted a First Communion Service and Patricia and Jim Turk are holding confirmation classes in preparation for the Bishop s visit on February 9, Roger Smith is conducting adult confirmation classes and adult education classes will begin again this month. Bonnie Connolly, Parish Life: Mike and Maggie Seymour organized the foyer groups and worked with Ken Kraft to coordinate Trunk or Treat for the community along with the Port Royal Methodist Church and the AMVETS. There was a farewell dinner held for Taylor Dinsmore, a Blessing of the Animals service, an Epiphany oyster roast and a reception after the Bishop s visit last February. A calendar of events is posted in The Center. There are plans to do a pictorial directory in Ken Kraft, Pastoral Care: This commission s work has been extended with the help of 14 volunteers who stand ready to help those among us who are in need of transportation, food service, phone calls, etc. Bonnie Connolly gave a very heartfelt thank you to those who participate in this important inreach service as they helped her manage during the time she was recuperating from a broken ankle. Alison Davidow, Service and Outreach: Alison distributed copies of the all-purpose booklet which she put together. The booklet gives a wonderful overview of everything going on at St. Mark s and is particularly valuable for newcomers. It will continue to be updated. Included in our international outreach is the 5 th Sunday collection which is sent to Episcopal Relief and Development and our Dominican Republic program which consists of sending shoes and other supplies, mission trips and raising money for scholarships for children. In our local community St. Mark s supports HELP of Beaufort, CODA, Thumbs Up and other non-profits that minister to those in need. There are plans to participate with Bayview Buddies and to start a Shawl Ministry. Woody Rutter, Stewardship: We have received $137,000 in pledges from 68 families. Nearly 40% of those who pledged increased their pledges over last year; only 7 pledges decreased, and there have been 20 new pledges this year. The average pledge for the coming year is $2,013, while the average new pledge this year is $2,211. Charles Keith, Worship: Charlie thanked those who have made the Acolyte program possible, the Altar Guild, and the music ensemble group. To aid in the search for a Vicar he has asked the congregation to answer 4 questions that will provide the Bishop with a profile of St. Mark s. The Bishop will then be able to help us find suitable candidates. Charlie also reported that the Diocesan Convention will be held on February at All Saints, Hilton Head.
3 Paul Wiske, Treasurer: Paul presented a 2013 Annual Treasurer s Report which included preliminary year-end financial statements and a preliminary 2014 budget. The membership accepted it and the Vestry will approve the final report at their monthly meeting. Ken Kraft, By-laws Changes: Ken proposed changes in St. Mark s by-laws which are necessary as we transition from a Chapel to a Church. A motion to accept the changes was made, seconded, and passed by a unanimous vote. Alison Davidow, Nominating Committee: The committee proposed the following for election to the Vestry: Paul Brewer, Teege Culp, Linda Jones, Alan Poe, Woody Rutter. She then asked for nominations from the floor. There were none and the nominations were closed. A motion was made and seconded to accept the Vestry nominees and it passed. Buster Davis, Anne Marie Irwin and Scott Shaffer, alternate, were nominated as delegates to the Diocesan Convention. There were no nominations from the floor and the 3 were elected to a one-year term. Those leaving the Vestry, (Bob Pinkerton, Susie Kearney, Mike Frederick) were recognized for their service. Roger Smith gave a closing prayer and the meeting was adjourned Respectfully submitted, Cindy Baysden, Clerk PROPOSED CHANGE IN BYLAWS ARTICLE III: MEETINGS OF THE CORPORATION Section 1: There shall be an annual meeting of the members of the Congregation of the Church on or about the second fourth Sunday in January each year or on some other day as may be appointed by the Vestry. Special meetings of the Congregation may be called when the Vicar or Vestry deem it necessary or advisable.
